Re: Mercedes-Benz W123

Replaced the starter motor bendix as it was slipping. Tried to source the original from overseas but price was very high. Luckily the Tempo traveler bendix is same. Price is reasonable and quality is good (Bosch).

Please try the chor bazaar area (Mutton Street) as you are based in Mumbai.

Tried them all ! Most of the cars out there are junk sold mainly my middlemen ! No or incomplete papers , un original interiors , shabby patch up works interior and exterior well tge list can go on !!!! Buying one directly from an owner who have kept it with TLC is the only and best option.

However before I approach the owner is it worth investing in a W123 200d.
The RC expired in 2010 & currently under the 2nd owner.

Also thinking to restore it (would be my first), so what are any major expense that I may have to bear ?

Attaching pics for reference

Experts please advise
Could you pm me the location of the car, a friend is badly looking for a W123 in Delhi.

Re: Mercedes-Benz W123

Greetings all,

Hope all are safe and doing great.

I own a 1983 Mercedes-Benz W123 200D. Want to share a quick hack that I did to instal the side rubber molding strips. Here's how it went...

1) Had ordered the body molding rubber strips and eBayed the Red grommet clips as well.
2) Post some denting and painting work, sadly the molding holes and panels were not accurately aligned as they were from the factory and wouldn't align and fit with the molding strips and the gromet clips would not hold the molding strips. It was really frustrating.
3) I took the old panel molding and pried out the rail at one location to release the hooks. took all of them out and replaced them with a square head bolt, so as to not rotate when I tighten the nut with the body sheet metal in between.
4) Applied the same to all the new molding strips and they are snug in place.

Attaching pics to help understand better.

Cheers!

Nice one!

I remember this being an irritating problem on our old W123.

Also it only just occurred to me that these strips are present for ding-protection from other cars' doors being opened!

Not sure whether this is modded or the factory one.

The details are in the below link

Sometime back I saw a W123 ambulance in 1995 Malayalam movie Nirnayam. Today I managed to get a screengrab from the video. Anyone knows whereabouts of this car
