theses days most mercedes models dont have the aura of the seventies and eighties

Right! The current Mercedes don't have those royal appeals of the 80s & pre-80s cars. The current Mercedes are just like common other beauties and no more royal cars. Mercedes have become more commercialized rather than customized royal cars like they used to be earlier. No chrome & metal and less mechanical engineering involovement but more of plastics, thin metals and electronics. If you observe closely, even the tri-stars on the boot are of less quality as compared to the earlier models.

i think you can use the alternators by Bosch/Mico, well if you are going for a replacement i would recommend you go for a higher amp rated alternator. eg; 90 or 100 amps.

Re: Mercedes Benz W123

Hello friends,
My W123 (see pic attached) has the following problems -
1. Minor electrical faults with automatic windows and mirror,
2. Radio antenna not opening,
3. Dashboard has a minor crack, wonder if that can be corrected,
4. Air-conditioning,
5. Fresh coat of paint (just a touch up and polish),
6. Engine tune up.
Could any one recommend a proper person for the job in Bombay?
I will also appreciate any thoughts on how much all this could approximately cost. Thank you for your time.
Caddy.

Re: Mercedes Benz W123

1. Minor electrical faults with automatic windows and mirror,
Get a good electrician to work on it. W123 have very simple electrical s and easy to sort.
2. Radio antenna not opening,
I had this problem and I replaced the assembly with Hyundai assent one its a direct fit!
3. Dashboard has a minor crack, wonder if that can be corrected,
Not sure about this but its common with W123, I am so far spared of this problem.
4. Air-conditioning,
Please elaborate what the exact problem with AC is. I just replaced the compressor last week on my W123 it cost me 25k for an original fit from opera house. I had the option to replace with a universal one but opted to stay out of bracket modifications and change of belts,OEM is OEM. In your case check what the problem is from a specialized AC guy may its just leaked Gas.
5. Fresh coat of paint (just a touch up and polish),
The car looks good just get it waxed.
6. Engine tune up.
Which engine do you have?

Re: Mercedes Benz W123

Thanks Tazmaan, The antenna assembly idea rocks. You've solved my problem there. The car has a petrol engine any idea who could do a good job with it in Bombay?
As far as the AC goes, you are right could be just a leak. Will have it checked with a competent guy.
Also one more question. Is there any safe way of removing sun control film without damaging the glass?
Many thanks for your inputs. Caddy.

Re: Mercedes Benz W123

Hi Caddy- Seems like a nice W123. Had some queries. Did you just buy it ? Can you share the details of your purchase. You could PM me.
Because there was a white W123 300D with black interiors up for sale recently.

I have been amongst W123 diesels for sometime now as a friend was looking out for one. He has bought one and I am helping him with it, not because he is my friend, but its a W123

The electricals can be mostly DIY.

Cracked dashboard is a big problem on a W123.

@Tazmaan & Caddy- We should keep in touch, to keep these tanks in tank shape

PS- @Tazmaan- The car acquired is just 2-3 kms away from where your car is.

Yes we can I stay next to cotton world may be we can go for a drive togather.
I often see a white W123 240D visiting close to my building (cotton world lane). Its often parked in front of my building in the evenings. Saw a lady drive it away a few times wonder whose it is?
