Help needed in deciding on a Vijai Super!

Hi All,

I came across this scooter at a garage where I was getting my RX brakes fixed. The scooter has been lying around since a few months and is up for sale. I dont know anything about this scooter, but really liked the body lines.. the flat side panels, the long front mudguard (which does not turn with the wheels). When asked how much I would offer, I quoted around 4-5K. The owner is expecting around 15K for this scrap. I informed the garage owner if he comes down to 7k, I'm willing to buy it. The bike is in running condition.

Now I dont know whether 7K is a good price or not + whether the decision tp buy the scooter also is good or not. If I do buy it, I plan to restore it to its original look with a classic paint job.

Need your inputs so that I can make the right decision.

Some pics of the bike :

3-3.5 k is what you would pay for it. A Vijai Super is by no means a rare scooter and is easy to get hold of.

15K ? The guy must be dreaming.

@V12
I think the price quoted by the owner is way too high for this scooter.
The price which you have mentioned to the garage guy seems to be fair for a running scooter( 5K)

15K looks like its high time to take my 1975 make Vijay Super on road again.
Lambrettas, Vespas are having value not other scooters so dont pay anything above 3-5 max if all papers are in proper shape.

Mate,

7K is a bit too much on the higher scale. If i were to buy it, i would not pay a dime over 3K! Moreover, you would have to shell out on getting it back to shape.

15K
Ask him to put a decimal in between
1.5K will be appropriate
On a serious note anything more than 3K would be too much.

I agree with the others...even 7k is rather high considering the condition of the scoot!
You should've left with your initial offer first.
A friend here bought an original one-owner one in parrot green (original paint!) for 4-4.5k last year! Of course even those are being quoted higher prices than this, but this one is in a real sorry state, so there is no reason to pay more.
Did you check the status of papers?

Or perhaps you could wait for a better one?

what about the engine and stuff. Get an idea of the engine's health. (that is if there is one inside). Often the mechs rip off parts from abandoned vehicles.

15K? and we sold ours for mere Rs 800/- :( hehehe

7K is bit too high. As mentioned by others, 3K may be reasonable, if engine and gearbox etc is workable condition.

However, if are able to get the deal in below 3K, and get it back in shape, I can say you will be having a very stable, rugged and good looking scooter in hand.

Wish you all the best.

Guess enough is said. Just to add, my friend sold a much much much better condition Vijai Super GRAND PRIX 150 for 7k. Vijai Supers are not very hard to come by. Pay him 5k if he is willing to get the scooter back on road in proper running condition, fixing all the original parts back.

People are still ready to ride something like this???

I'm stumped!

Do you even get spares for this thing, as of now??

Raccoon: Some people will only ride something like this. For people like me, it is not commuting but it is a lifestyle and this lifestyle is about vintages and classics. As for the spares, once ur in the groove you know where to look for it.

15 K LOL! Maybe it would make sense together with the low rider Bullet chassis beside the Vijai in the first pic!

Even I say 3 - 5K on higher side. I would say at the most 2 - 3K. Just do not let them smell that you are collector of old vehicles. Tell them I will use it for daily commute.

My brother sold his Vijai Super around 2.5 K in much better condition what I can see in pics.

7k OMG!!! .. you should get it for free..You need to get many parts including the logos ..
I think even with that getting back it into running condition needs lots of investment and time.
