FCB's next meet details!

Today's FCB Breakfast meet from 7am to 10am witnessed participation from around 14 members. The weather was perfect to assemble at Vidhana Soudha at 7am. We spent an hour at Vidhana Soudha and drove to Windsor Manor bridge at 8am. And then, headed to breakfast at the President hotel. It was a nice small gathering of like minded enthusiasts.

Hi Folks, It was an amazing turnout, and that too on a Sunday morning at 7 a.m. We are delighted to witness the beauties in front of the iconic landmark of Bangalore Vidhana Soudha.
These beauties were flaunting their uniqueness with their owners taste.

Just spotted in HSR. Didn’t know where else to post this. Poor thing looks good though perhaps slightly tired. But maybe a nice wash, polish and detailing job will bring the car back to glory. it seems to be a Fiat 1100D of the 1960’s age group. (Going by my memory of badging and logo placements and rear C Pillar ribbed patterns on my Uncle’s and my Father’s Fiat’s)

Hi Shankar, that car is mine We got it a month or so ago. It's a 1969 Fiat 1100D.

So far, only some urgent mechanical work has been done - steering/gearbox etc. We are awaiting parts for further work. Then we'll get to work on the exteriors - it will require some body work and paint work.

Will post more as we make progress.

So my memory didn't fail me as regards the variant, the badging and the model age.
My Uncle’s was a 1966 or 1967 model of the same 1100D and it was Black. My Dad’s was a 1968 or 1969 model and it was a Grey-Blue. They had the most wonderful transmission whine when accelerating away in second gear and would emit a light burble when changing up to third and of course in the hills when changing down from 4th to 3rd to 2nd. Brrrm! Lovely cars those Fiats.

Continuing on this post - please see some photos of the car. Its a 1969 Fiat1100D - we (my Dad and I) bought it recently and intend to restore it to as close to original as possible.

As is, the car has a reasonable level of original parts, but some are from the PP. The interiors have been re-upholstered sometime in the past, but the color is the original grey (though many panels seem to have been repainted and its not in very good shape overall).

Mechanically, the car is running fine as of now

Posting a lot of photos of the car (apologies for the large #).

It would be very helpful to us if experienced members here could point out the bits which are original and the ones that need changing.

Also would anyone have pictures of an original 1100D that they could share with us, for reference

Congratulations on a fine purchase - the car seems very genuine and original. Going by the chassis number the car should be around June or July 1969, what is the date of first registration in the RC? The car was later called Nimbus, though in 69 it might have had another name. Very suitable for the car, and the upholstery colour might not be too far off from the original though the seat pattern has been changed. Don't worry too much about the fittings, most important things are in place. If possible source all the aluminium light fittings - tail, number plate and park lights. To be picky, also look for the original design of choke knob and keys. The car stands well, and if you are going to attend to the paint I would just give it a careful top coat, retaining the PDI markings in the engine bay and worn out dash paint, but that's just me. Please carefully preserve the weatherstripping / side window scraper rubber, its an original item of the older design and usually lasts a lifetime if stored indoors. The car looks complete, I'd avoid fitting any more accessories. Happy motoring, just enjoy driving the car, these models are very enjoyable and reliable for regular use. The Bangalore boys are champions in the subject of Fiats, I'm sure they will all help you in maintaining the car well.

You are spot on - its July1969

You sure have a keen eye - picking up the choke knob from these photos . Yes, we have to look out for Aluminium tail, number plate and park lights and orginal style key.
Also noticed the following:

1) need to replace the washer jets next to the wipers with steel ones (have sourced them already) and then find the Wiper pressure pump and washer bag also.

2) need to remove the plastic inside door handles on the Fr doors and replace with the original style door handles - does anyone have a reference photo for this ?

3) Aluminium window handles for all 4 doors - current ones are PP Chrome plated ones. Door handles are thankfully original aluminium

4) Fuel Guage is iffy - need to check the tank float/guage for correction

5) Steering wheel has cracks - its seems original so dont want to change it - need to find a place to get it repaired.

6) I had a question for Fiat experts: Is the Quarter glass knob (circled in red) original ? I remember the Padminis used to have a push button 'lock' on this knob. And is the wiper stalk original ?

Actually for the Delights the front doors came without armrests or door pulls straps. So it was common for people to retrofit grab handles.

The locking quarterglass knobs probably were introduced only on the President, so these should be original. Wiper blades were probably Tex brand, not sure.
