An Elder Mercedes With Young Kids

Was on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway last weekend when I spotted a beautiful red mercedes cruising in the right lane.

Coasted beside it and it was like a scene from an old hindi movie with a bunch of smiling kids on a joyride sitting next to an older driver.

Best I can describe the scene is the old classic song: "Mannubhai Motor Chali Pom Pom Pom"

Smiles and handwaves exchanged, we drove side by side for some time and then moved on with our journeys!

Here are two photos of the moment!

Nice car! But, the car is a RHD one, right? In the side pic., it looks as though it's a LHD and the kid in the front is driving it! As for the song, IMHO "SAre ke sAre gAma ko lekar gAthe chale" from Parichay would be more apt to describe this scene!

I would prefer Shammi Kapoor's "Chakke Pe Chakka" from Brahmachari.

Such simple pleasures in life. Guess we should get the kids from that happy lot to write about the experience with dadaji's lambi laal gaddi..

Also good.....but the car in these pics. doesn't bring the image of that song (which had some ramshackle 20s vintage car in it)

Oh well, 'nuff digressing I guess!

A W110 190 . A finny with a four cylinder engine and a slightly shorter wheel base compared with the W111 six cylinder cars. They were built from 1958 to 1967.
I work on these every day and it never ceases to amaze me that 40 year old car can still be used as a everyday driver.

I remember it being a Fiat, BMW 1786. I must re-confirm.

Second shot captures the three-pointed star on each wheel perfectly upright. Flukishly brilliant

Incidentally I too saw this car on the same highway couple of days ago on Saturday, though didn't see if there were kids in it
