i am having some sort of problem with my brakes. suddenly the brake pedal goes down but doesn't touch the floor.brakes still work at that point. my master cylinder is single piston (1986 model).i noticed one strange thing also. the pedal automatically comes up & becomes firm after driving a distance of around 30-40 km. What to do?

Spongy Pedal, but i just don't understand why it firms up after driving 30-40 km.

Two reasons associated 1. Locked air in the system, Bleed the system.

2. If Pedal firms up after 2 -3 back to back pressing, then you need to Service the Master Cylinder.

Manish is right bang on the target ! Either there is air in the system (which needs to be bled down or the master brake cylinder is on its last verge. Go to a good mechanic and get the whole braking system throughly checked.

PS: Please continue the discussion in the Fiat 1100/ Premier Padmini Technical Information thread since a lot of the above posts are off topic for this thread.
