re: Restoration: 1950 Morris Minor Convertible

Pavan,

I've so enjoyed following the restoration of your Morris Minor Convertible, a great painstaking project that will give you many years of pleasure.

My father's very first car was a 50 high light convertible that that I learned to drive in and as I became a teenage became my car and did some mods on.

Ever since i came to Calcutta many years ago I had thought about finding one and restoring to use while we wintered over. Not finding one in reasonable shape I finally purchased a 62 Fiat 1100 - WBF-1 which I have so enjoyed restoring and driving daily.

BUT my heart belongs to my old 50 Morris and it gives me such pleasure to see the transformation of your car.

Here's a photo of me behind the wheel when I was 13 years old.

The updates.........................hmmmm...!

You need to wait for some more time my friend.

The only reason this fellow is sitting idle because i am not able to source the Outer door handles and inner lock mechanism for both the doors.

People are directing me towards Amby door lock units, but i have my own doubts weather they will fit or not.

Seems like i have hit the DEAD END temporarily...

Thanks indro..

But what about the inner locking mechanism, by the pics, it looks like the handles have integrated locking units.....!

I need them, but i am pretty hopeless with E-bay ordering....

The locking mechanism is the same. You don't need anything else apart from what i showed you. Make be a few additional fasteners. There maybe many of your follower and friends who know how to do and will do it for you willingly or maybe ask the owner of the car to do it for you.

re: Restoration: 1950 Morris Minor Convertible

I do not know whether I am posting in the right place, but I wanted to know if anyone has attempted wiring a Morris Minor in the correct wire colours. According to the Lucas wiring diagram, there are several wires with a double coloured insulation. For instance, you get a green wire, with a white line running on it. I need green with white, green with red and green with black. Any idea where I can source these wires in Bangalore?

This so called ""British Super star'' is now found awaiting restoration in the garage of a famous veteran Bangalore restorer.

Let me clear a little ambiguity for the concerned lot

This project was halted @ 75% work, for a reason being, the car owner bought few better classics and felt its better to spend his resources and time on those cars rather than the Morris Convertible. Also i got busy with restoration of his other cars, hence the car was taken away 1 year ago to his place and later sold to someone else.

Since the car is sold to a third party now and the restoration stopped 1 year ago, i would ask the mods to close this thread.

If the restoration was stopped 1 year ago , it would have been apt if you had mentioned it in this thread then itself !!!

Mod Note: Thread has been reopened at the request of the car owner (brat001). I believe he has updates to share and will be doing so shortly.

This car was never sold, though should be sold shortly. I have had this car all along. It was removed from Pavans place as work and progress was rather unsatisfactory. After 4 years and a lot of money down the drain, not much had really happened. A lot of the original fittings went missing had to be sourced once again. The car underwent another round of restoration at Mr. Sripatis workshop where the paint, tinkering and mechanicals were seen to. Will post some pictures of the work and the completed car shortly.
