That's the Mercedes 300 of Rashtrapati Bhavan. No I believe in the Gulf and in fine condition.

That is a 1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster. The registration I thought might have been MYM, but given the location (Surat) it is more likely to be the old series BYM.

I always wondered how did the ex-President's Garage Mercedes 300 convertible land up in the Gulf?



Now it is clear, the auction was not won by the person I thought had won.
Wish that President's Garage cared a bit more about their heritage vehicles. Today they scrap the bullet proof vehicles, don't sell to collectors.

Harit, I wonder whom were you thinking about. Thought I had mentioned it to you that Mr. Vinod Arora bought it in the auction and he is still the owner.

Anyway, I think the car is being cared for more, now, than its official days at Rashtrapathi Bhavan .

I believe the car was here in Dubai at Max Garage for a full restoration, had seen it there a few times and then it was supposed to be going back to India not sure if it di or where it is now.

Hi Wasif,

This car is maintained by Max Garage for Mr, Arora. The full restoration was completed a few years ago and now the visits are only for periodic or upkeep jobs (the pic was from one such visits). As I had reported earlier as well, its a daily runner in every sense and now sports a Dubai Classic Car Number Plate as well.

There are no plans at present (as far as I know) to ship it back to India or any where else for that matter

Nice pics and the Delhi Roads looks really nice.

But the note regarding the visit date 1974 - is incorrect, I believe. Am not sure about Tito, but others in the picture like President Rajendra Prasad and Pt Nehru passed on in 1964 0r before.
