Lambretta Cento Owners, veiws and Restoration

After a long hesitation I thought I wwould start with a new thread for restoration of my 1983 Cento, I'm aware this thread is going to be a slower one as I have two other projects running simultaneously.
Starting this thread as wanted to gain as knowledge about scoot and helps if there are any parallel restorations.
I've learnt a lot in my previous Lamby restoration from TBHP and looking for the same support.

Rakesh G.

Is your Cento the 3-speed version or the later 'J Range' 4-speed?

It would be useful to see some pictures of this before you proceed.

Its a 3 Speed 98cc. I'll post the pics latest by tomorrow.
Also what amused me was its headlamps, unlike the Cento's manufactured in Italy this Cento has a headlamp from Vijai Super.
sorry for this but will soon post the pics.

Mitch: Arent the Cento's the J-series too? From my understanding, all the 98 cc were of 3 speed and perhaps the J125 was the 4 speed one.

Lambyman: Congrats on ur cento. Its a good thing we have the vijai lights, else it would be difficult to get the glass n dome. It also had the pillion footrest from the vijai. I was lucky to get a completely stock, single owner Cento.

Thanky you Tuffryder,

Folks, just 1 question, I have a spare handle bar from Lamby, would it be advisable to fit that onto the Cento?

Ohh yes Cento belongs to the J Range family,

J meant the Junior, there were J50, J100 and J125.

I can't speak for the Indian versions but the Italian Cento was originally a 98cc, Li based engine with a horizontal head. This was not a success and Innocenti changed it to 125cc. The 4-speed version came later.
The early frames were prone to breaking and this was addressed on later versions. Check your frame!

Hey rakesh, wow! What a lovely little scoot boss!! I'm really envious!

'looks really complete and tidy. I advise you to keep her as she is, the patina look is worth it! Or at the most go for a single-coat paint on the outside.

Thanks a ton Stan,

Even I'm so much convinced with the current colour and the way it is running, it gives me a top speed of 50kmph and without any trouble, my scooty is slower and makes more noise than her.
I agree i should not touch her at all as of now. I'm so much scared to stripp her as if i dont get any parts I would end up crying and importing is just not within my budget, After buying this scoot I'm completely broke and I'm using scooty and watching southpark on computer whole weekends. I think i have a lot to learn from my Lamby restoration, though it was very easy to procure parts for her and indeed owe it to Ilangop.
btw Luna's fork bellow rubber makes a perfect air filter hose, Fitted 1 today on it.
Again what do you guys say? should I paint it or not? Also should I put Lamby's handle bar to give it a round look rather than the square one?

Hey Lambyman:

Thats a great looking scooter. Here is something that is missing on your scoot. Try to look out for the Dellorto air filter.

Also guys in one of the pictures I have circled the fuel filter holder. Im told that this was a stardard fitting in the cento. Unfortunately the filter is missing. The holder looks like the pacco bottle filters u get. Any idea which one this is?

Thank you

Hey Tuff,

thats good bit of knowledge I checked my owners manuel, but it did not show me any, could this be any modification to filter the fuel.

And yes I'm in desperate need of Air filter dolerto air filter hose and the cup which connects the CArb and Hose.

If anyone comes accross with the same kindly pick it up for me

Im not sure if the filter was standard fitting only to the Indian Centos. The one on my scoot looks like it was a factory fitting.

Im on a lookout for Air Filter Hoses too. Please let me know if you find one. I will keep an eye out for Air filters for you.
