First NSU I'm seeing in India.. Lovely .
Look at the angle of the steering wheel - very different from what we're used to.

Ah, so this is the NSU you told me about! I had first presumed it was the later "boxy" type one:

wow that was a rare find.I never thought that one would exist in india. The car looks in restorable condition.Hope the owner wakes up and decides to do something asbout it, either to sell it or to do it up or atleast put it in a proper garage where there is no junk piled up inside or on top of it.

All,

I was also amazed to see such a car and that too for the first time. As for the Car all the panel and tinkering work has been done quite some time back. The car is awaiting spares from SIngapore???? which would come soon, as per the mechanic.

Furhter the car is owned by a Hyderabadi gentelman. But yes I do agree with all that why all those trims, handles, levers, switches and meter is left on the Car, only to get destroyed by the loads of garbage put on the car.

That is the original NSU Prinaz 1. This was the first Prinz in the line that was current from 57 to 62.

Engine would be a two cylinder 580CC rear mounted air cooled unit.

An interesting car in terms of novelty value as its not a really great driver.

The other Prinz posted by Stanher is the Prinz4. This was current from 61 to 73 and there were plenty of these around as there was an NSU dealer in Goa who was selling new cars till the late sixties.

I used to own a NSU Sport Prinz which was a two door Bertone styled coupe. Very stylish car similar in design to tHe NSU Wankel Spyder.

These cars had an OHC design taken from their motorcycle range. They also featured what was termed as a "Dynastarter", in effect a dynamo and starter motor combined in one unit.

There was a friend of mine who has a garage in Goa who had purchased the inventory from the Goa dealer along with the Sport Prinz and a Prinz 4.

The Sport Prinz is now with the Bhogilal collection.

Any idea who the "gentleman" from Hyderabad is who owns this car ?

That lovely car actually looks abandoned.

Wish that car is restored to its original glory soon.

Manish, any details on the present state.

Wasif thanks for all that information, the engine is indeed what you describe. Garage owner did not tell us who the owner is.

This is the present state of the car my dear friend, I might be also that the car is destined to be in a state like this with the lack of interest of owner.

Dear all - My wife's uncle had a red NSU. I had seen it once in 1983. Uncle gone up. Car gone, I don't know where! He had a red Skoda also. It was MMD4972. Also there was a Moskvich MRH3704 fitted with an Ambassador engine. The car was a goner from the day I saw it 26 years ago.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Below are pictures of the car before she was sold and went into restoration, to its present state. Basically the car was intact. I could not find the pictures earlier.

There were two NSU Prinz Spyders with Choksi at Juhu in about 1980, one was red and the other yellow. Where they have moved on I do not know. They too were rear engined.

Then there were a couple of NSU Fiats in Mumbai, I have seen both models, the equivalent of Superselect and 1100D.
Then there were the rear engined cars which had a shape resembling a mini Chevrolet Corsair. One was a single headlight model, red colour, German Consulate in Mumbai, sold by STC, now not seen. The other was a twin headlight model, Indonesian Consulate, removed one fine day on a truck, landed up near chor bazar in a workshop, later painted green. These were very successful rally cars, very often souped up. This car is also not seen, someone said that she went to south India, maybe for racing. And again both were rear engined cars.

Maybe this red car was the one mentioned by Behram above. It was a 1960's model.
BTW, was the Moskvitch blue?

The Car is Indeed intact and looks complete, I really don't know what parts (from Singapore) they are waiting for to complete the car.
