I was looking for more info related to "Herald" on Web and this is what I found about it -

Heralds were assembled in a number of countries other than the United Kingdom, the separate chassis being used as a jig to assemble kits exported from Coventry.

In the 1960s, Standard Motor Products of Madras, India manufactured Triumph Heralds with the basic 948 cc engine under the name Standard Herald, eventually with additional four-door saloon and five-door estate models exclusively for the Indian market. In 1971 they introduced a bodily restyled four-door saloon based on the Herald called the Standard Gazel, using the same 948 cc engine but with the axle changed to that of Toledo, avoiding the Herald's "swing-arm" which could not handle India's poor roads. The Gazel was discontinued in 1977.

I loved the way they called it "Gazel" in last line , this shows that it use to be one of the fastest of its time.

Good peice of information shyam, thanks once again. I am sorry I got it as Dharmapuri for Dharampur but the car indeed was a real eye catcher. I didn't know it had a legacy I wish we had one of that kind. Hope you land up with the one you always wanted. All the best my friend.

but...one of the fastest?! Ahaa.....I guess they gave it that name so it would appear so; that explains it!!

Anyways, all further discussions on the above subject may be continued in the "Standard cars in India" thread.

Coming back on track here, more updates on the car. The chassis has finally been coated in Dunlop anti-rust paint today. The front part, since it has to be worked on during the body fitting, has been left out.

So today, the bodyshell was cleaned up and being readied to be worked on- this should be just as exciting!

Meanwhile, my mech. and I took 4 of the 5 rims over to be 'throughed' and removed of all the dents/bends.

Although I suggested taking my car for this, my mech. vetoed it saying there are too many checkpoints in the city and was somehow apprehensive about carrying the rims in the car. So, he came up with this:

Could there be a way wackier than this?!

He held the other 2 in his hands. 'was some effort carrying them all the way from Secunderabad to old Hyderabad (Afzulgunj)!

They said it will be done by tomorrow.

Rear axle work also begun. More updates to be posted.

TBD (To Be Decided!) Still quite some way to go before that!

Engine doesnt need rebuilding per se, gearbox does need work though. That's next on the agenda after suspension is all done..

Ok and what about the brakes ? Going to get new wheel cylinders ?

Rubber stoppers may be a good idea though. But where to fit them? It isnt advisable to weld up the rear outriggers as the retaining bolts for the rear body go though them, so they need to be open at the end in order for the bolts to fit.

What is 7 tank btw?

7 tank tratment is pretreatment done on raw material prior to painting or assembly(if assembly size is bigger than tank size). This includes cleaning,derusting, degreasing, passivation, phosphating,ect.
This ensures longer rust resistant life of the product made out of it. This process is done in almost all the manufacturing companies and their suppliers. in aut industry also, after assebly of monocoque, the same goes into the process prior to painting.

My mech. says the existing wheel cylinders are ok. So no need for new ones as of now.

Not much, they started working on the running boards and bought the metal sheets for the bodywork, for which Iam yet to receive the other half of the advance, so work may take a little more time to start. But no issues, since I'm anyways busy with my exams to go check out things, until myabe Saturday.

I did make a visit yesterday, they were all out for some wedding.

Exams: 2 more to go on tuesday and thursday! Preparation is going to get a bit more 'vigorous' in due course of time!

Resto: Standstill as I'm yet to receive the rest of the payment currently asked for the bodywork to hand over to the garage. They too are now busy anyways, with weddings going on their family, even today! So I guess its all a sign to wait until my exams are done and I get some breathing space!
