Thanks silverado, I have seen that video and I hope it is still there in You Tube, the best part if I remember right it was skoda RS (Petrol), this is another example of what a Fiat could do, most of the common public still feel this is a slow and old car, coincidentally a family friend narrated a similar story that her grandfather was unable to steer their car on a uphill and they were scared when the car was moving back because of improper gear selection, I felt angry and gave her a polished reply saying " the car is not slow or old it is your grandfather incapable in handling the car".

I thanks and salute those who believed the potential of this car and set up remarkable records which we all are proud of.

My padmini was my daily runner ( weekly runner ) untill we got Nano.
Now with petrol @ 75rs per litre, padmini is very sparingly used, in fact once - twice a month only.

It was easy to maintain her in mumbai, but it will be a task to do that in Pune.

I am not sure how many of these daily runner would go off road with the govt raising the prices of petrol now and then, as it is govt had been harsh on these beauties and they are done with taxis in the useless pretext of pollution and this second jolt would make classic cars either die a slow death or end up at scrap yard.

I am not sure if you visit mumbai regularly, but if you do you would not like to be seated in most of the 1100 taxis here. They are poorly maintained and your heart will cry with the state in which they are used.

They are some good examples which will make you drool, it is these taxis which are in good health which need to be saved, rest i feel should be brought off road.

I have shifted to PUNE and everytime i visit mumbai, i try to ride Padmini Taxis to feel the nostalgia, since i never get a chance to ride backseat in my own padmini.

I wish FIAT should bring back 1100 like they did for 500

During my stay in Mumbai during the last two weeks, I happened to move around 4-5 times in the taxis. You're correct in saying that only a handful 1100 taxis are well maintained. Most of them are in a sad state. Now with cars like Altos, Santros and Wagon Rs joining the taxi fleet, the day is not far when the old Fiats and PPs will be phased out. But again as you said, the Fiats and PPs that are in excellent condition should be saved.
