A lady colleague of my parents, when they worked at a local govt. org. here, had such a car in the 70s. I dont know if it was a Wyvern or Velox as I wasnt even born then, never saw it. But I was told it was a similar model Vauxhall in the same colour combo. Actually belonged to her father, who took real good care of it. 'never let even his own son touch it. But he apparently didnt mind his daughter doing so, and she actually learnt driving in it, and also parked the car outside their quarters all the time, which meant that it eventually deteriorated in condition. I remember my mom telling me that the car nearly became the eyesore of the campus. I was told that her father eventually got upset with her for this and took the car back with him to his native home in Cudappa.
My dad once wanted to buy said car when he was looking forward to buying his first car at the time, but was strongly discouraged by the old gent's son-in-law, who seemingly wasnt too fond of old cars.

Thats a Vauxhall Wyvern. These are pictures from my album. These used to come in two tone colours and maybe its paint is original. The car can be restored. Mumbai is near and you can source your spares from there or even take the car there for restoration.

It is mentioned to be a 6 cyl. so siddhartha is right about it being a Velox (Wyvern = 4 cyl.), unless it had a 6 cyl. transplant.

I find it easier to distinguish the later model (1952-53) Vauxhalls as the Wyvern had plain trims and the Wyvern badge on the front fenders. Am helping restore a similar car here now.

Could it be an error. RC books are known to have such errors. I have a twin motorcycle yet it's mentioned as a single in the RC book. The BHP of this engine should be much nore than 18. The only thing is you say you have the original booklet mention the same. On the internet they say it's 54 BHP.

both of you could be correct.
In those days the RC books used to mention the cubic capacity in the Horse power
For eg:for morris eight they used to write HP:8
Morris10-10 etc.
so the RC book may have mentioned 18 meaning ~1800cc

Yes I gave that a thought too. But then the RTO should have written 22 or 23 HP in the RC book. Hence I didn't say anything about that. Nice car though and could be restored in to a great looking vehicle. Wish I didn't have the bikes.
