Are there any white wall tyres which are currently being manufactured for Ambassadors and which I can get here in mumbai ?

What do they cost ?

Regards,
Not sure about white wall tyres availability, but there are 2 options.

1) Our member CarBug has set of 5 brand new MRF white wall tyres @ Rs 20000/-

2) I can get you 15 inch White wall inserts @ Rs.2750/- for a set of 4. It sits perfectly on normal Radials and fantastically on cross ply tyres.

Re: Ambassador Mark II 1970 - Restoration

Jeepster, alas the long, long wait is over. Guess if I am correct, the work had commenced sometime during mid-2010.The car looks pretty good and I am sure original components have been fitted that are giving the period looks to your Ambassador. Please post more photographs.
Great job well done.

Re: Ambassador Mark II 1970 - Restoration

Hi Jeepster09 congratulations buddy for the outcome, paint looks very neat but don't take me wrong this baby certainly needs a neat and new number plate and again I am not criticizing the chrome could have been still better and the car would be one OUTSTANDING car.

Not sure about the painting pattern does Mark II came along with silver color on the rims but would look period or classic when painted with the same body color. No issues now that the beauty is home you have lots and lots of time to take up perfection aspects. All the very best and this car definitely adding up the desperation of having a Land master/Mark II in our family.

Re: Ambassador Mark II 1970 - Restoration

Congratulations Sanat - fantastic job ! Have to see her in person now.. Glad to know she's running well.

Do take care while fixing the chrome trims - the holes you drill (if you do) should be treated, and sealed with black silicone or something like that, to avoid rust.

Iqbal ji is right - the little trim strip below the tail light will add a world to the car's looks !!

Great job buddy !

Re: Ambassador Mark II 1970 - Restoration

Dr Anjan, Bala, Ravi

Thanks for your kind comments, advice and the encouragement that you all have always provided to this project. While the car is still far from complete and a lot of small things needs to be done, hope to add the pending stuff soon.

@ Bala,

The numberplates are going to be replaced, had mentioned it in the post. The chroming job could have been better but could not help it. The rear tail lamps have got rusted in the rain but I am going to get them rechromed.

Will surely post more and better photos shortly.

@ Iqbalji,

Were you referring to the chequered plates seen in the below photo ?

Regards,
Sanat

Re: Ambassador Mark II 1970 - Restoration

Hi Sanat, I am restoring an old 1967 Ambassador Mark II which has been owned by our fanily since brand new. I am trying to source the rear fender strips as seen on your car which curve downwards and stop at the tail-lamps. Could you let me know if you have a source.

Re: Ambassador Mark II 1970 - Restoration

The front parking lights and bumper seem to indicate it is a Mark 3 but these could have been added as an after market modification. The Grille of course is of the Mark 4. But congrats on your project, hope to see the pics of the restored car

Loved the car- and the period Bombay registration too!

The bumpers need some chroming- minor cosmetic jobs needed here and there- but I must say- Your car is lovely!

Thanks for your kind comments, Fintail.

You are right, the bumpers and other things are pending. Am getting the car running smoothly first now. Have new bumpers ready to fit once the mechanical work is completed.

Today got the front suspension serviced and refitted. The lathe work done for differential shaft was not proper and hence have to get it redone now.

I also need to search for good chroming works here in Mumbai.

Cheers,

Re: Ambassador Mark II 1970 - Restoration

Re-chroming the bumpers will really shine up the car. You used Duco paint, right ? Was there a specific reason other than it giving the original look ? Was there any concern about using old Duco stock ?

Maintaining such an old car is a challenge. Even though I have a brand new SU carburettor and also the original fuel pump, I am afraid to restore them in my 1962 car.

Same here. I have the original carb and manifold for the car. But have installed a mark3 manifold and carb. The old SU carb are difficult to maintain
