Restoration of a Chevrolet. Chennai'ites interested?

Hi All,

I have been seeing this chevorlet car on my way to office for a long time. Yesterday i had a chance to see the car and take pictures. I spoke to the owner also. With his permission i am posting the pictures here. His name is ravichandran and he has a Rover Montego and an Imported 82 Benz. I am not sure about the model of this car, so any classic lovers here, please update me with the model. He told that it originally had a petrol engine, but now runs on a diesel. He has sourced another car with petrol engine to restore it. He told that he is planning to restore it, but is also open to sell it. posting pictures

This car is huge believe me, am not a tall guy, but the steering is positioned higer than my chest when is sit in the driver's seat

Boot space is ample and though the beadings are falling apart, it held up firmly, without need for assistance.

Ah! another beauty under the sky mercy of nature. If the owner is serious about restoring he can keep the car under a shed or atleast cover it so that it would not spoil, smear oil all over the chrome parts and rims so it is also saved, advice him to mount the car on some wodden log so the tyres, bearings dont get spoiled. If restored she would be amazing and the regd number 7700 seems like BOND car's cousin.

Hi,
Its an 1953 CHEVY,my understanding is that the biege/darlbrown car isthe car which the owner desires to restore and has DIESEL engine and the green car is the one he has located for engine and other spares.

I feel the green car is more original and will b easier and wiser to restore with the other car becoming the donor.

Just a thought! why spoil one car to make the other run where both look more or less the same condition (pretty well), what if one has the Diesel engine while the other stuffs are original i.e, dash, interiors etc. If lucky the other Engine can be changed in later stage once found. My opinion is both the cars deserve care and love why to waste such a god car. (Am I getting emotional haa!)

It was under covers, i removed it to take the pictures. he is not interested in restoring the green one. He has no budget for it.

@ Mohamed, what you feel is right.

The Clock on the cream and maroon car is from a Mercedes ponton, I am no expert with American cars but I am guessing lot of other parts may be mix and match. I do not see any sense in restoring both. The car with the better body in my opinion should become the candidate for restoration, that looks like the cream and maroon car to me.

Bang on target Amol! That indeed is a windup Kienzle clock from a Mercedes 180/190. What on earth is it doing in this car?
