Purple car does belong to Srisha. Will be my ride for a few days now...

Got few spares for the car today. Have a lot of things to do, lets see how soon i can complete the work.

Noticed 2 more things that i need to do.

1) Get the Speedo cleaned and serviced
2) Replace with a new Indicator Stalk

BTW most the the spares procured for the car are ORIGINAL GERMAN, from a good friend (theBulletboy aka Pankaj) in Bangalore. Though they are used, but in excellent condition. Reduces cost and serves the purpose too.

Re: Beetle - my B'day present

Well, what came in for a regular service has a bit of paint issues, reason being simple. Car being exposed to Sun and Rain for a prolonged period of time.

Well, few work done right now.

1) Headlight beams changed
2) Door locks made for the door handles
3) Engine breast plate fitted, will be painted later.
4) Sanding done on the bubbling parts of the paint, and we are painting both the front fenders and the bonnet.
5) Door winder mechanism serviced and now smooth.
6) Dynamo pulley being replaced
7) Original mechanical fuel tank float replaced

Re: Beetle - my B'day present

Paint is almost scraped down, i remember that i had used 2K paint way back when it was restored, and 2k paints are real hard to remove.

Hopefully by tomorrow we will get to the base metal and start prepping the fenders and the bonnet for painting.

Re: Beetle - my B'day present

Its very unfortunate, that i could not visit the garage due to time constraints. However, i am happy to see the progress. I guess the wiper baldes were not working properly, you may need to check on that as well.

Are we also treating the underbody with anti rust?

With the kind of Guest Appearance you made, there was no chance you could have made it to the workshop..

Wiper motor base stalk is the issue, will have it removed and will check it.

Underbody Anti-rust coating is Mandatory, and yes, it will be done once the painting completes.

And for the Good News... Towel rail bumper work is 60% underway, hopefully by tomorrow, i might complete it, need to get them chrome plated.

Re: Beetle - my B'day present

Pavan ji i would be interested in knowing what type of clips are being used to mount the door panels. From the pic it seems new. Will soon be mounting the door pads on my car so figuring out options. I am avoiding any use of screws to fix the panels.

These are spring clips, Locally they are available, but the one's on this car are got is from Westcoast Metric, i had got 3 packs (150 pcs - $ 7 per pack) 6 months back.

The bonnet has been fully scraped, primer sprayed, body filler job done and today the painter sprayed Surfacer and has started applying Oil putty, hopefully by tomorrow we might complete the base coat and by Sunday we might complete the final paint work.

6 years after restoration and constant exposure to outer environment the 2K paint is showing signs of ageing and i have decided that i will not use 2K hence forth, so right now the paint will be from Dupont.

Weather gods not permitting to complete the work on time

Found some sunshine today and sprayed the base coat today, and checking for some uneven spots. If weather permits tomorrow i might spray the final coats of paint and clear.

Re: Beetle - my B'day present

Really nice work going on there. Why weren't the wheels removed before painting the rims?
