Darjeeling Land Rover.

There are 31 Land Rovers left in Darjeeling. including mine.

Outlook did a piece on them recently. Most of them are paperless. Very little work is needed on the mechanical front, Body and painting is a must.

Only problem now being that they have started quoting extremely high prices, with people from outside buying them at high price recently. ANd magazines like BBC and Outlook doing article on them.

Enjoy.

Born free

Hi all, this is one of my favourite pictures, that I want to share with you.
This is a Series 1 landy belonging to Adomsons, & the famous Elsa sitting on top of it.
This is the original Born Free.
When I see this I feel I have born in a wrong place at a wrong time .

Trans-Darien Expedition

The pictures of Trans Darien Expedition in a magazine mesmerised me when I was a kid and I became a Land Rover enthusiast.

Find my profile photo in this picture!

Thats a GJD Motorstand, my uncle was one of the trustee and pioneer who started that in 60s.

Unfortunately all of them are sold except that LWB model which is fitted with a mazda diesel engine and does work for PWD.
That blue one in specific is bought by a friend from Delhi (Kahai in tbhp). Its green in colour now.

Wow, amazing! Good to see atleast one place in our country 'unspoiled' (so far) by the common Sumos, Traxs, Boleros etc.!

I too liked Landys in my childhood, ever since I saw one used in a chase scene in teh James Bond movie "Living daylights"...I even saw what looked like a series 1 lying at a local garage here for sometime around 10 years ago. 'never asked about it though!

As for these ones, incidentally, I suspect most of them are dieselised with newer engines?

Drooled over again and again at all the well restored LR's on this thread. Heard a Land Rover is for sale in Hyd, went to check it up and unfortunately it was not a SWB and turned out to be a 1972-74 petrol which belonged to the grand son of Nizam of Hyderabad. Still on the look out for a SWB 80-90's Defender.
Love Prithvi's and 4X4ers SWB's.

Dear Fazal.

thats a very neat example with most of the thing originals and intact. Don't go by the bodywork, as its mostly aluminum and are hence rust free. Even the quality of iron used for other parts are very good. Just out of curiosity, how much is it?

@Pollyji
Darjeeling had around 250. now only 31.

Here is mine.

Hi all, & dear Alec, This body is going to give lot of trouble, may be you will find some original pannels replaced with ms sheet.
Also the Door Tops (side doors ) are gone , need to replace them & are hard to find .
The Dash is Not series 3 , for sure ( only the meter pannel looks original).
Brake master cyl is Played with,(not original type ) It had a brake vaccume booster it is gone.
The carb looks clean , my be recently done in attempt to start.
Is she in a Running state ? If not why ?
Why she is grounded ? Any Landy grounded like this IS full of surprises
Explanation for above Grounded statement : Land Rovers ,specially the series ones are hard to Die . there is no electronis & hardly any wiring to chew for rats. they run on bad /old/adulterated fuel. They just keep on going till they get Terminally Ill. any minor problame dosent simply stop them.It is said that they Get you Home in any condition.
So be aware of a grounded Landy ( without any Solid reason ).Always check the reason, Why she is so.
There is another Class of old Landies, thease are the Road Shy type , they dont have the paper work to show to Cops/RTOs (So get the permission of elders before you have an Affair with them)
Yours Sudarshan
P.S. Hey Polly Sir , Born Free was the first movie I got in my collection when I purchased a dvd player, its beautifull, so many glimpses of that Landy
