It is currently running on a Isuzu 2.4D with a 4 speed gearbox. I am interested in restoring the car here in Chandigarh and would need the Guru's advice on the following:

I am pondering over a couple of options the first one is to fit an original Diesel 2.25L Engine along with the gearbox, which came standard with this car. Any idea from where I would be able to source it from?

The second option is to source a 200tdi or a 300tdi engine again I am not sure from where I can get it. I understand the import route for second hand spares is not a possibility. Was wondering if it can be sourced from India.

The third option is to put in a suitable engine which is easily available in India, For this I would like to know which engine and gearbox is best suited for the Landie. I understand this option is not my priority as I am more interested in sourcing originals but this would be my last resort.

I look forward to hearing your expert comments.

Regards,

Gobind

Sir please check this line of thinking , if it suits you .

I am scratching my head for better answers for you .

But one thing is sure I am NO GURU & still learning from people & own experiences .

Here

Apart from Jokes , you can fit a MM XD 3 P engine along with its KMT 90 Gearbox & T 18 transfer case . The point is all the parts ( Engine to Clutch to GB to TC ) are factory matched to each other you wont need to make plates & adopters except mountings on the chassis .
Also please do not cut any cross member of the chassis while swapping the power-train .

Why the MM parts
1) easy to get replacements
2) the T 18 transfer-case set up is suitable to drive the right off set original diffs
3) even Differential housings ( 4x4 ) from MM can be found & fitted as they come in the Right offset setup .

regards

Sudarshan
hope this helps

Great if at all I remember correctly , this is an Ex. save grain program ( central govt ) vehicle . I may have the Reg. No . noted to ascertain it , but I could be wrong .

Supposing I am right , it was lying for some time under a central govt complex near Pune ( opp to Akurdi railway station ) .

Anyways , about the price

Its a FEEL GOOD factor for me Thanks for sharing

Re: Land Rover support group!

Truck Load of ........ ?
Love ?

Lots of Trouble ?

Land Rover... Really ?

Yes i still don't know what to call it.
My Initial reaction was WOW finally it has arrived & it was not a short distance that it traveled. It came all the way from Nashik after a lot of brain storming.

It was all fine while still in the truck.
Trouble started as soon as it was unleashed from the ropes which held the beast in its place.

To begin with it dint crank & muscle power of 5 men was no match to the beast.
My swift came into action & tugged the Landy out, we realized that the battery was dead & fit only for funeral.
We pulled out the battery from the truck & it decided not to crank & we couldn't figure out much since all the wiring was in place & the indicator lights were working, well those were the only things that worked now.
We called the owner & after some dilly dallying it finally roared.

The end of a new beginning... (Will open a new thread soon)

Regards,
Kumar

Hi Sudarshan,

Its a late 1986/1987 SWB 110 - V8 Petrol (American Spec engine I believe) Its just before the "Defender" designation came in to effect officially.

Any assistance would be appreciated

Best Regards & Thanks

Dear, what i think if you have an option for other than original engine, continue with the isuzu 2.4 diesel engine and if you are not having the 4wd system you can attach the isuzu gear box from the trooper easily available from delhi some good dealers include tau ji, you can also attach the 4wd attachment to the 2wd isuzu gear, i suggest do not go for 5 speed isuzu gear as the 4 speed provides more torque and enough speed for a land rover, keep us updated . Wish you all the best and land rover is the best, here are some pics of my land rover.
