BAYWINDOW Lands in Kollam

This blue 1973 baywindow just landed up in the rural outskirts of Kollam.
I have not seen it , so dont know much about it other than it was driven a distance of 70 kms nonstop from thiruvannnthapuram to Kollam and touched speeds of 100plus kmph with its original 1600cc petrol engine.
he says that the car has good originality except for the headllights and some minor items

Thats an early 1970 Baywindow.

Must actually run on 1500cc single port engines.

Kishore a nice bus all in all, can we have the engine bay and the interiors pics.

This mostly likely seems to be the erstwhile Baroda Bay window (a WHO auctioned bus) which later went to Hyd. I think a 72 model.

kadam sir,
just got all the details regarding the bus from my frieend in Kollam.
It is an original 1973 bus with the pre89 type registeration number .
Single owned since 1973 till 2004 when it changed hands to a guy from whom the Kollam friend has purchased .
This was used sparingly by the first owner and has done only about 72000miles.
interior is fully original and appears fresh according to the present owner
This has not undergone any restoration and it is not a WHO or baroda
vehicel but from pondicherry .

Thanks 67bug,
according to the owner, it just requires a facelift restoration because almost 90 percent of items are original in it. so no scope for such pics, will try to get some photos of engine room ,interiors, etc

I think I have seen this microbus on NH-47 about 2 years back.
Saw it from a distance, so could not spot the number.
It was really speeding down the manglapuram -thonnackal stretch .had made some enquiries about it then . got the information that the guys(dealer??) was asking about 5lakhs which was really crazy and didnt seem comprehensible

ajay sir,
You remind me of the bears in the share market.
anyway my friend says he paid a really fancy fancy price for it.

This could be the same vehicel because I have not seen other VW vans in kerala other than the one which is an ambulance used in my nearby border town of Theni

i recall seeing a similar van in a Auto Show in Kanakakunnu Palace grounds in trivandrum back in 2000/01. I remember the show was organised by an Engineering College.

First I thought it was an old matador . But the guy at the stall corrected me.

Could be the same van. It was a Kerala registration car though.

I have restored this bus Mechanically. Though there is lot to be done on the body and paint, the owners intention is to run it with the current set-up for sometime before jumping into restoration.

The Bus came to me by truck from Hyderabad, and was not even firing, Clutch was burnt and in a pretty bad state. The fuel tank was full of muck, which was thoroughly cleaned.

Following work done.

1) Complete brake overhaul
2) All oil change
3) New fuel lines drawn
4) Repair the electrical connections
5) Complete engine tuning
6) Clutch replacement
7) Fuel tank cleaning

24 hours is what it took for the Bus to come alive and i drove it 30 kms in peak traffic to my friends house in south Bangalore (Car owner)

Where presently its resting, and frequently runs a few kms also.

I admit, this Bus is far far original than any Bus existing in INDIA, Nothing to top this Bus in terms of Originality.
