1961 Fiat Makeover

Dear Friends
I am looking to give my 1961 Fiat a makeover. Her original plate was MSW, but after we moved out of Chennai and moved back, she bears a TMG.

Anyways, she is mechanically FINE. Needs all the jewelery and cosmetics though, for which I need some help and guidance from you all.

Many Thanks

Oh my god! If there ever is a thread that is close to my heart. We had this car right from 1961 through 2002. Gave it away...
Have so many fond memories of this car and I learned driving on this one.

Your grill looks different to our car, also the steering wheel has one steel ring for the horn.

What are planning to do with it?

Thanks Hiren.
Somehow, it has never occurred to us to give it away. So I guess its there to stay!
The grill and steering have been untouched since the beginning, so I guess it is some kind of a variant. I know there are a few with the "square" grill pattern..

Nice Car you have got my friend, and Hrishikesh has mentioned my thread in his list. You will get some info on your car which is same as that of mine. (Too many pages and lot of discussions, but that is the essence of Team Bhp).

We will help you out on your restoration, but before that give us a detailed pictures of your car, each and every bit worth sharing for to get a better idea.

I see some of the original stuff still hanging on and so the request.

Thanks so much for the info.
Yes, my hardware needs are key and my top priority is:
  1. Body beading
  2. Aluminum tail and number plate lights.
  3. Tail light lenses without reflector in it
  4. Side indicators - Fish type
  5. Pressing type dicky lock
  6. Clip type wheels
  7. Wheel caps
  8. "Fiat 1100" dicky badge.
Can you tell me how/where I can get White-Walled tyres?

@ SAMSAG 12: The tail lamps, unfortunately are not the original ones. I guess EARTHed's needs list is correct.

@Manish: I will post more photos ASAP (on or before the weekend).

@ EARTHed: Also need the Dicky Hinge Covers!

I need a good deal of body work to be done as well. The deck-lid area, sill as well as floor of the trunk is in bad shape.

I would ideally like to strip the paint and shot-blast the whole car, but I am not sure if the metal will take it...

Will get you more photos ASAP. Yes, I'd even like the Rear View Mirror with the little light on it if I can...

Thanks
Govind

I do have a few of the beadings lying at home, but I suggest you try and obtain a full set if you find one. You can try at Puthupet perhaps?

I have a few of the older clip type rims but they unfortunately all missing the clips! Some of our people at B'bay have got them fabricated though.

I should be having one badge lying around as well.

Reg. white-walled tyres, a fellow tbhpian from Hyderabad, suren181 got them new for his '57 fiat, which is seen here:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attach...h-img_5889.jpg

I think he got them from Delhi. Do pm him to find out.

  1. Body beading - Available at Mubarak meter works in Bangalore Scrap Yard.
  2. Aluminum tail and number plate lights - Hard to find
  3. Tail light lenses without reflector in it - Mubarak Meter works
  4. Side indicators - Fish type - Difficult but once I saw with Mubarak meter works
  5. Pressing type dicky lock - no Idea
  6. Clip type wheels - Not available in Bangalore
  7. Wheel caps - Hard to find, contact Ajay 99, he had few of them.

P.S. Mubarak meter works is damn costly but is getting supply of parts, but some of the stuff is repro.

Also Please can I buy the current tail light from you, if you are planning to replace. I think this is the correct one for Delights and one of my friends need it.

I am also looking for the Select aluminium tail light, which is the missing link in my restoration, if you find 2 sell one to me.

@ Stanher, Manish and Funkykar:
This is some insane amounts of information. Thank you so much!

@ Funkykar:
How can I lay my hands on ALL of what you mentioned above? Are the caps original?

I am not too desparate on 6&7, but the rest..YES! A big YES.

How can I organize the acquiring these parts ASAP? I can reach out to some friends in Bangalore to contact anyone who can help me with this.

Hi Govind !
That's a lovely Select you've got.. do her up well, take good care of her, and she's going to be one head turner !
Hope you get hold of all the stuff you need. For anything else you may need, do post here, I will try to pass on whatever possible from Amchi Mumbai - anything to see a fab Fiat gracing the road..

The regular aluminium tail lights will not take a two piece lens, from what I know - you'll need the right housing too, for a two piece tail light.

And if you do come across spare hub caps, I'm in queue..

Cheers,
Ravi
