Re: The only old car i ever really wanted! (1953 4-door Morris Minor)

Hi Absynthguzzler,

I remember hearing a long time ago that fitting standard engines into Morris minors was common practice that probably started in the 70's or 80's (?), but one common issue that rose from this was that the front torsion bar would break due to the heavier engine. So, if this is true, then i doubt the Conti engine is a good idea, i don't know much about this, could some experts please comment?

Also, did bull motif and ESM deliver parts to India? If so, were duties charged and what was the courier charges, if you don't mind sharing.

Thank you,

Srinand.

Purely for the sake of having one original and one hot rod looking exactly the same. .Chose a conti engine since its a RWD model.

Mostly from Bull Motif as well , but some from ESM cause i found their quality to be better . ESM also stocks original reconditioned parts if i remember correctly. Its been 6 months since i ordered so im not too sure of the details.

Sorry , missed out on some details Srinand. The hot rod Morris will be spaceframed with the FRP shell on top..........not a run of the mill build. Heck, we've even planned for a inline-6 from a beemer earlier

Nope, they didn't ship directly. Got a mate to do it separately. And yes, i did pay duty. Courier was around 200GBP if i remember correctly.

See the lubrication schedule. It says engine oil is to be drained and refilled every 1000 Miles and Gear Box oil every 5000 Miles. The Ambassador schedule also recommended so ie., engine oil at every 1500 KMs. Perhaps the lubricants could be the culprit here for such small drain intervals.

Re: The only old car i ever really wanted! (1953 4-door Morris Minor)

Hi Rajeev,

Yes, it is quite strange, thanks for noticing. But seems to be the case only with the pre-war minor's and the Morris 8. While the duration has increased with the post war morris which has a 3000 mile replacement schedule. Again, experts could shed some light here? May be the quality of lubricants got better after the war?

regards,

Srinand.

Another important item of the Morris Minor is the Shock absorber which gave way to the telescopic dampers in Hindustan 14.
These Armstrong units were recondition-able rather than replacing them.
