Okay, how do I know all this? PAVAN restored my Landy 8 months back. I'm really impressed the way he restores with Passion, dedication and what not.. Thanks to PAVAN I am a Tbhpian now. I love his restoration and his threads as there is something to learn in them.

Coming to Beetle, thanks to this restoration process and Team-Bhp that I have understood what is a "Beetle thing" which only a enthusiasts can understand. My Beetle is arriving from GOA on Friday and more details of it in a separate thread.
Just concentrating on the highlights... Please fill up your TBHP garage if possible. We would love to see your collection too.

and being a Beetle Nut.. awaiting pics of your beetle from Goa!

Re: 1961 VW Beetle Restoration

This is a very clean & superb job done. I am also looking out for a Beetle. Where in Goa can I find one? And at what price?

Regards.

I had been keeping a tab on this car for a loooooong time since it was first displayed on T-BHP ( by our own Indra_SLK) Not in this section but i shockingly found it on a Supercars in Goa thread which i dont even think of visiting.

It was nice of Indra to let me know about the sale of this 1 OWNER car after his dads demise(may his soul RIP)

They had been having this car in the family for a long time, but sparingly used.

The details of the car are as follows

1) 1961 Made in West Germany
2) Right Hand Drive
3) 1200cc
4) Original 6 Volts
5) Single owner
6) 1 % rust
7) 14645 Genuine kms on the ODO

Me and my friend took a 14 hour Train journey twice, 4 hours of wait on Goa Footpaths and road for the first time and A great holiday at their Resort at Benaulim during completing the purchase.

A lightning 10 days is what took to restore this beauty back to its originality.

This car was purchased by a good friend and a T-BHP'ian Brat001.

Re: 1961 VW Beetle Restoration

WOW,Pavan Sir! Amazing work on the beetle. I still think the photos dont do justice to the car. Please post more photos, please!

I am a total noob as far as VW goes. I have a doubt. What is the emblem in the Horn Button. I was expecting VW monogram in a beetle.

Another doubt is do state RTO's give any concession on Road tax on vintage cars.

Re: 1961 VW Beetle Restoration

That is a pleasing looking car, glad it is now in use.

May I humbly repeat what inderpalji has mentioned - the side trims really should have been removed, the wheels really should have been opened. Some amount of rust is bound to be present there which is not attended to, especially since the car was in Goa. You put in so much effort, let it not get marred by rust streaks dripping out from the trims if ever caught in the rain.

Yes, original trims are not available, but anyways these are damaged and excellent quality repros are available (with clips) fairly reasonably in stainless steel which will last a lifetime if looked after.

And then tackle the numberplates! Cheers.

Thank you for the advice Karl.

The tyres were off the rims, and the inside of the rims are painted before the new tyres went in.

Regarding the body chrome moulding.... Brand new one's arrived yesterday.

Brand new door handles with key came in yesterday.

Brand new door rubbers and quarter glass beadings are on the way.

So, we are repainting few surface in the next 2 days time.

I understand everyone's concern and i take all the advice positively to make the car better in the coming days.

Keep watching this space.............

Re: 1961 VW Beetle Restoration

Great Job once again Pavan. This is going to be my watch out thread for the restoration of my 61 Beetle. Same specs i presume. I am really happy that there are a few like you Pavan, who will not think twice about sharing the process of restoration by backing it up with WIP pics. Thats the spirit of this forum. Guys on this thread,i will need a lot of help when my Beetle gets on this path. Meanwhile it is en route to Bombay, no not from Goa (was from Rajasthan, of all places) Will need lots of help. Thanks and keep up the good work Pavan.

Thank you sirjee, will wait for your message.

Today, while i was returning from Office, i saw a very familiar colored car at a distance, that was the same 1961 which i had restored a month back.

I too was driving in my Beetle today, as soon as he saw my car headlight flash, he pulls to the side and stops me. He has been driving his Beetle like a daily car off-late, and is very happy with the way the car is performing.

I wished him luck and sped away.

Re: 1961 VW Beetle Restoration

This very car made it to be on display for the Bangalore Auto Expo 2011. The car won lots of ooh's and aaah's and lots of mails and sms's sent to me by many VW enthusiasts.

The car is getting the last few upgrades very soon.

1) 1200 cc Original Badge
2) VW Original hood emblem
