[PAVAN KADAM]

This was the last project for the year 2010, the BEST so far and the FASTEST so far

I had been keeping a tab on this car for a loooooong time since it was first displayed on T-BHP ( by our own Indra_SLK) Not in this section but i shockingly found it on a Supercars in Goa thread which i dont even think of visiting.

It was nice of Indra to let me know about the sale of this 1 OWNER car after his dads demise(may his soul RIP)

They had been having this car in the family for a long time, but sparingly used.

The details of the car are as follows

1) 1961 Made in West Germany
2) Right Hand Drive
3) 1200cc
4) Original 6 Volts
5) Single owner
6) 1 % rust
7) 14645 Genuine kms on the ODO

Me and my friend took a 14 hour Train journey twice, 4 hours of wait on Goa Footpaths and road for the first time and A great holiday at their Resort at Benaulim during completing the purchase.

A lightning 10 days is what took to restore this beauty back to its originality.

This car was purchased by a good friend and a T-BHP'ian Brat001.

I have personally seen the restoration of this VW and the outcome is really good. Great that the complete job was completed in a record time!

Some more pics

Basically the car was really GOOD. But over the period of time, it had started to loose its freshness, the upholstery was HORRID with nothing much inside, tyres were last changed in 1979. No 6Volts battery.

Lot of things to import and since its a 1961, lot of spares were really difficult to get and a bit expensive too, over that, the TIME FACTOR.

Somehow things fell in place and Dec 31st 2010, i delivered the car to its rightful owner

Lovely find Pavan ji and congrats to Brat001 for this acquisition. The VW must have been smiling after seeing you guys, What else a car demands, one a true automobile fan and the other a very passionate & dedicated (hobby) restorer who really enjoys every bit of the word AUTOMOBILE.
Really looking forward for more pics of the restoration. If i am not wrong this is the same car which is seen at the background in some pics of your other restoration threads. Do correct me if wrong.

10 days was a tough task, but even more tougher was the pain in importing all the required period spares for the car within this short period Must thank my friend for being really quick with the financial requirements.

Almost most of the fittings were procured and are period correct. This is a 100% original car and efforts were made to make it better than what it was.

1) The paint shade - L 87 pearl white Original VW shade was meticoulisly matched and provided by Dupont
2) Upholstery roof liner - 59 derby grey procured from Marvin
3) Upholstery - leatherette 78 true red 77 soft beige lining again from Marvin
4) Steering Wheel - clay beige matched by Dupont guys
5) Rim (Model 113, 114, 117, 118) L 87 pearl white same as body color
6) Gearshift and hand brake lever - L 469 anthracite by dupont

Each and every aspect was matched perfectly to the model and was a point to point restoration.

Now you have started to do lightning fast restoration, i guess you developed this by the experience you have grasped so far. Excellent Pavan, Congratulation for this.

I am not there yet, but yes,You can call that experience, but i call it my love for VW's. And that always makes me take that extra step.

Good to see the body taking shape. I guess now the the painting is done, its all left to the engine bay and the interiors

If it may interest you, when I had been to goa recently, there is a small garage, which had around 3-4 beetles, some other old car and a VW bus or 2 just rotting. Took a lot of oics of them. Will post them sometime soon.

As i had mentioned earlier, the car was restored in 10 days flat since 19th Dec to 29th Dec, the car is already delivered to the owner. Did not start a thread since had 3 projects to deliver by 1st Jan and also work at office kept me busy.

You must be referring to Prem's garage, i had visited him twice, a nice chap, most of the cars there have come for restoration, but takes a looooong time to come out.

i think the strips should have been removed and then the body painted same should be the case with the rims and tyres

Yes sir, but the clips were on the verge of breaking up, so the fear of not being able to put it back made me retain it, mask and paint.
