This thread is about my current project
" 1930 Ford Model A Phaeton ".
I had always wanted a Ford Model A , mostly because of the reliability and the simplicity of these magnificent machines.
This particular car was also discussed on these posts below on our forum

I bought these 3 project cars in 2013 and we started the restoration of the Ford sometime in 2014 , it has been a slow but steady progress and we are now approaching the final few months of this restoration.
This car was supposedly bought new by the owner and was garaged sometime in 1949/50 , and remained there till 2012, the car rusted a lot because there was leaking roof and too much moisture in the garage, it was moved out of the garage and brought to its present location from where I picked it. I also noticed that an attempt to restore the bonnet was made as it was painted with primer.
I will first post the pictures which I saw on olx.
Frankly speaking at this time I was more interested in the rover and might have not bought this car if it was offered alone, but since the deal was to buy all 3 cars together, I went ahead and bought the lot.
the car as it was pushed out from the garage.
it was quite a tedious job to arrange for the entire dispatch of the cars from Ludhiana to Jaipur, first thing we did was to make sure that the cars were in a rolling position , I had taken the tubes for both the morris and the ford and 4 wheels/tyres of my rover in case we needed to replace them, luckily for us all we needed was some air in the tyres.
Rolling out the cars was difficult as the cars were located on a busy junction so we did not want to block the traffic and create unwanted attention.
The cars were rolled out and then towed a distance of almost 5 kms, where the truck and a crane were waiting, we started at 6 am and were all done by 11 am.
The entire exercise , travelling with staff to Ludhiana by car, closing the deal, arranging for towing vehicle, crane and the truck , rolling out the vehicles and loading them and then travelling back to Jaipur and finally waiting for the cars to reach destination without any hassles and unloading them safely, well it was all energy sapping and too tiring.

Thats the morris , which looks wrecked, the chassis was badly rusted and the strain of the journey and the loading /unloading got to it , it would need a major repair , I am also looking for a chassis or a donor car for the morris project.
Good Job. Good to know someone from Jaipur who is into Vintage cars. Are you restoring it yourself or through someone ?

the car is being restored at Ghani Auto's on MI road.
This is a pretty interesting build Kartikeya!
Your passion clearly comes out throughly through this :)
But is it only me or the front two wheels tow up is a little too harsh for the age and the condition of the car? Or it barely matters since you took it all down anyway?

It is bit harsh , but these are strong cars and can withstand this , though should not be done if the distance is too long. Personally I wont recommend it !

As long as there is oil in the differential and gearbox, there is not going to be any danger. The rear axle mount and the curious cross leaf spring suspension, seems to be in good condition and it is not easy to rip it off. IN any case a model A is a fine tough car.

I want to get a vintage luggage piece at the back, though it could be done with spare at the back too but then I decided against it.
The dual spare option was also thought off but I think from what I have seen and have been given to understand is that the 1930-1931 Phaeton just came with a single spare wheel, either at the back or in the front.
Adding an illustration below, if you look at the 1928-1930-31 Phaetons, you would note that either there is a spare at the back, or none is visible,which might mean that there is one on the side of the car ( I could be absolutely wrong too)
Also please read the quoted post below, though it is about a 1928 car, but I think coming from an expert , we can derive that there should be only one spare.

Would greatly appreciate if experts could share their views, I still have time to move back the spare to the back or even have dual spares in the front, finding a ford A spoke wheel is not an issues.
Harit's 1928 Ford A is probably the oldest Ford A, with dual fender side mounts, in the country. Dual side mounts was always an option. Largely seen in the exported cars, probably due to the road conditions. Dual side mounts as an option was not common in the US.
