A NOS Bosch distributor has been sourced from Germany. You have to be really lucky to find one of these orginal ones

I remember reading once how mercedes keeps stock of spares for vintage cars and provide them to you at request.

Yes parts being sourced are period correct for the car. The goal is to bring back this car as close to originality, as possible.

Meanwhile more updates from the Father & Son duo,

Doing up the 1938 170V Roadstar at least mechanically has been a great pleasure.

Finished working on the engine, transmission, suspension systems and handbrake.

Doing up the brake lines and also the auto lubrication system - a pump with inbuilt container that is pressed to release lubricant to the kingpin, and other moving joints . An unique feature of the German cars of that era.
The car is slowing but surely shaping up very well

The right side view gives a sense on the lines of the car. She will be a stunner when completed

Re: Father & son resuscitate a 1938 Mercedes Roadster

The new fuel tank was fabricated out of brass, as it requires lower maintenance and is also easier to fabricate.

Re: Father & son resuscitate a 1938 Mercedes Roadster

This looks amazing. Have a few noob questions on this:
1. What would be the structural integrity of such a car. Considering that so many original parts are rusted and there is some patchwork to get that back in shape.
2. How does insurance and road worthiness work for such vehicles. Will an insurance company ever insure this?

Answer to your questions are as below
  1. The body is on a ladder frame chassis with the body is just bolted on it. The body is held together by the wood work. Hence once the wood is replaced, the body will hold. Key points in the body would have additional reinforcements
  2. Only third party insurance is possible. The car must have valid documents and Fitness Certificate of the car must be up to date

Cheers
