Curiously for that date, it seems to have a regular license plate. Is this a known car ?

I am told the car was with the royal family of Jawhar State, and had been dieselised. Thankfully the original engine was sold along with the car. I've never seen it in person but it must be a truly remarkable automobile, just like most of the collection.

I had seen this car from the early days when I was still in school. It belonged to the Jawahar family who were living in Sterling Apartments on Peddar Road. The car was lying in the basement parking, there was a huge Mercedes Diesel monogram placed on the grill. The red number plate had become invalid and was tied around a pillar of the basement. One day I saw Pranlal driving it and it became that he bought it. The sum was supposed to have been Rs 15000/-. Pranlal often drove a car after purchase if it was working. Later on Anji Mehra who was associated with Pranlal at that time told me that they had gone to the palace and retrieved the original engine. I believe that the car now has some issues with the differential or some such issue.
I hope that she gets going again.

Hard to believe a Viceroy would come to India with a second hand car, that too a marque not associated with a person of his position.
