Does anyone know this Mercedes or its history ? The Rajendra Prasad gift story does not seem to make sense, or maybe it does.

Where was this display? I ask because a school friend of mine hails from the 'Sheohar' family (Bihar) and while I was attending his wedding in Patna a couple of years back, his cousin, a scion to 'Hathwa' raj told me about a fleet of their former state cars kept at their Patna garage. I had even gone to his house the day after the wedding to see the cars but alas, he had fallen sick and couldn't show me the cars. He did mention a Lincoln though.

So in any case, there is a Lincoln in Patna.

I believe it was at the Sri Krishna Science Center, sometime in May. Seems to have been organized by the Bihar Motor Sports Club (?)

Dr Rajendra Prasad had as his official car a convertible caddy of the fifties which remained in Rashtrapati Bhavan as the Presidents car after he stepped down as the President in May 1962. He passed away a few months later, early 1963, and never owned a Mercedes.

He was a man of simple values and tastes !

Such stories are spun , sometimes by current owners, often by journalists , so must be taken with a huge spoon of salt.

I think that could be the same Cadillac now in Goa.

Having said that there were I believe at least 2 Mercedes 300s, maybe 3, used as state cars. One was a later 300D convertible, which survives in Dubai I think. Another older one is with the Bhogilal collection, now I forget whether hard top or convertible (he had both, plus a lovely 300SC).

Tweety says that Dr Rajendra Prasad never owned a car in his life. therefore he could not have gifted it.

A lovely state car of similar type can also be seen in an Indore collection.

Wow! so far the most beautiful car I've seen on this thread. Looks like it's moving even while standing still.
