If you look again, the pillar is clearly visible

Looks like the same car to my eyes, at least as far as the body is concerned.

ex-India Invicta S-Type 1934

The ex-India Invicta S-Type, exported by Lars de Jounge - recently auctioned by Bonhams for $ 830,000!

So, who was the "Indian Prince" ?

courtesy and more pictures at:

https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/22729/lot/5/

Faster789 had earlier posted photos of this car in India (BMU-7693).

Also interesting to note that the car was originally registered "GW-7575" in England - Harit had photos with those plates on PreWarCar.com and maybe on TBHP too. The car then seems to have had "Bugatti" headlamps and side mounted spares.

Great find, that's another mystery solved. Now I am not too sure about the royal connections, a previous owner's son mentioned to me that the car was imported by one Billimoria. Can't verify though.

I had thought the Billimoria car was the ex-Roni Khan car (BMW-3240). Could very well be wrong. Where is that today ?

Does anyone know the history of the Bhogilal Invicta ?

Based on the Bonhams history, the Invicta could have also been one of the earliest ex-India cars to get a gate pass to Pebble Beach.

It also mentions an anecdote about the anxious owner calling the factory to find out progress on his car. Another fable mentions that the anxious owner calling was the "Nizam". So possibly a Hyderabad / Jah connection ?

Thanks for this information . Now was there a third car 😏 would love to know ! The ones with such taste would be always a Gujju / MP prince or one from Rajasthan who had taste in speed and style . Holkar ? Nizam I do doubt but can never say. A fantastic price though

Cheers

BMW Roni Khan car is today with Bhogilal, I think GRD registered. Second car is GW 7575/BMU. Don't know of any third.

I am told the car survives in Belgium. Cheers
Sorry no rear photo though, I also have relatives in Belgium, thank you again for your excellent site, I will speak to Titi and see if she has any.

Re: How rich were the Maharajas before Independence! Cars of the Maharajas

There were two Patiala cars from the Frederiksen collection auctioned by Bonham's last Sep, a Maybach and a Rolls

Are there any further pictures and details available on these cars ?

The Maybach Zeppelin is a rebody of the Patiala Tourenwagen (transformable state limousine). The original body, I believe is kept the Maybach Museum.

The Silver Ghost is chassis 2517.

More info on both cars below:
