Re: How rich were the Maharajas before Independence! Cars of the Maharajas

Have a look at

http://www.prewarcar.com/magazine/pr...er-029861.html

It is thought that this 540K Mercedes was destined for India and then world war 2 intervened. Interesting. It is supposed to be an intermediary model between 500K and 540K just like the Pune car.

Cheers harit

Lovely pictures KartikeyaL.

The first two are the Phantom II (Chassis 91XJ).

The next R-R which looks like a PI throws me for a loop. The only Bikanir PI that I know of is 9LC, which is a boat tail. It could be a later(1920) SG, Chassis 66EE with radiator shutters, though the front wings look like a Hooper to me.

I think these pictures appear in Manvedra Barwani's book. At least some do for sure.

Is it confirmed that this is the same car that was also registered X7998, we've seen pics of it with a Parsi family.

I too cannot identify. Any reference iamges of 66EE? More details? I don't have a record of it.

There's still plenty to be found, thanks for sharing.

I only remember the Cadillac photo in Manvendra's book. I am seeing the others for the first time.

No confirmation (yet) on X-7998 being 91XJ. The windshields are different, though that could be easily changed.

I do not have any photos of 66EE. It is supposed to be a Barker Limousine Landaulette

KartikeyaL, the R-R BIKANER-4-P is a Phantom I, Chassis 65EF, ex-Bombay Governor Frederick Sykes. It is a Hooper Landaulette.

Bombay Governor Sir Frederick Sykes; RR PI, Chassis 65EF. Later "BIKANER-4-P"

I wonder if it is the Viceroy, Lord Linlithgow getting out of the car in KartkeyaL's picture.

Amazing work Travancore !
It could be the Viceroy getting off , I can spot the union jack on one of the wings of the RR.

I will try to find the source from which I got these pictures.
