Here is a striking shot of a Bikaner Austin (a slightly less glamorous choice) in action after shikar.

Re: How rich were the Maharajas before Independence! Cars of the Maharajas

Maharajas did not only have Rolls's, Caddy's etc., after their reign was over they also bought other cars like Mercedes, American tin etc.
This wedding picture can be of some royal family, the car could be a Rambler, someone please try to verify. Interesting is the "purdah" feature, and the driver. In the early years, "Purdah" cars had dark tinted glasses so that you do not see the ladies. But later they modernised, see a lady driving, a cloth hung over the backrest of the front seat, and maybe the bride peeking over the cloth partition. The girl in the middle is also hiding her face. Interesting photo.

That is really an interesting picture Harit. Purdah cars were associated with the lady of the house in the back driven by male driver hense the purdah between them.

Now we see a female driver and a purdah ? very strage, what is know about the picture ?

Nothing known about the picture other than what we see. Car appears brand new, ladies having fun, the guys looking very stern, and one man appears to be holding a sword. In Saudi Arabia these women could be caned

Re: How rich were the Maharajas before Independence! Cars of the Maharajas

Sometime a Maharaja's son got married, and the car used was a 1960 Chevy Impala. This picture has been posted on PostWarClassic - News / Home - PreWarCar . You have to scroll down or go to previous page depending how many days later you look for the picture.
Another photo from the same or similar event is below, Dr. Karan Singh appears in the photo. Any idea which Maharaja's wedding this was? By sheer co-incidence I attended a Maharaja wedding in Delhi where they used a 1960 Chevy convertible belonging to a collector in Delhi and the car is now in Mumbai.

The Rewa Lanchester is reportedly to be offered on auction soon, mentioned in this newspaper clipping.

That is a bit unusually proportioned, I think there is a similar one in the Gondol Collection as well ?

Early Lanchesters did look like this, a few did come to India but I doubt that any are still here. What Gondal has is the New Engine, an American Steam Car. Please remember, early pre 1920 cars are relatively rare in India, quite a lot came in but survival rate is poor.
