These were indeed a pair of Daimlers made for Bharatpur by Grahame-White for the Prince of Wales visit in 1921-22.

Here is another ex-Jaipur Bentley, also for sale. This car was only used in the U.K.

We had seen this car a few years ago in the Bentley thread.

A rather striking Baroda Phantom II is available. Anyone brave enough to bring the car home?

Why brave, because of the colour combination?
Even if original, I don't like it.

Re: How rich were the Maharajas before Independence! Cars of the Maharajas

I'm afraid that although advertised as a Barker boat tail, this body was put on in 1967 by Spanish coachbuilder Verth.
The original colour scheme of the car was: New Ivory over Mandeville Blue with Mandeville Blue leather.
Not sure how that must have looked, but having seen the above car in the flesh, it can not be worse...;-)

If this was a Baroda state car as implied, why did it have a Bombay Presidency registration? I wonder why.

In 1942, the state garage of Jaipur offered a 6 cylinder Alfa Romeo for sale. No other info in the ad. Ofcourse the car may have become undersitable, 6 cylinders drinking a lot of petrol during the rationing days.
Anyone has an idea about a Jaipur Alfa?

Cheers harit

Re: How rich were the Maharajas before Independence! Cars of the Maharajas

While browsing through a coffee table book on benares came across this picture of a cadillac from the garages of the maharajah of benares. I remember seeing this car as a child when we had gone to see him.

Re: How rich were the Maharajas before Independence! Cars of the Maharajas

I saw #100EF in 2008 at the RREC Annual Rally.
Not sure if it's original to the car but I really liked the mascot!

Nice catch! I believe the hood ornament was original - or at least the car seems to have had it while in Udaipur / India. Never noticed it before.
