I had the owner of meeting him in Delhi . Great man and he has the original body of the car which he bolts back when not travelling for such trips. Let me dig the snaps out and post. The car has sparco seats and a roll cage , the works .

Cheers

re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

I came accross this interesting picture of a trio of Silver Ghosts by the Grosvenor Carriage Company.
They were delivered in 1921 to the Nawab of Rampur.
Seen here parked in front of the Tate Gallery in May 1921.

re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

In going through my Rolls-Royce chassiscard collection I found a Silver Ghost, I believe not earlier mentioned on the forum.
It is a 1912 model #2039 ordered by the Maharajah of Patiala, fitted with a Barker torpedo body finished in aluminium with polished aluminium bonnet and dome shaped aluminium wings.
Interesting detail is the additional order for a silver enamel nameplate "Noornihar".
Anyone knows of this car?

re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

New additions to the list of Silver Ghosts delivered to India are:
#2313, H.J. Mulliner 5-seater torpedo in silver grey with grey leather delivered to the Raja of Pudukkottai in june 1913.
#2328, Barker torpedo in "Post Office" bright red with black mouldings and red leather delivered to Khan Bahadur of Hyderabad in june 1913. Forgive me, but is that the same person as the Nizam of Hyderabad?
#2334, Barker saloon limousine in blue with fine yellow lines, blue mouldings and blue silk interior delivered to the Maharajah of Patiala in january 1914.

Attached below is Patiala RR SG 2039 "Noornihar". This car is shown at Gwalior in the picture - it had been used as a demonstrator and eventually sold to Patiala. There are pictures in The Edwardian R-R and period Autocar

The car was Aluminium Grey + Green Mouldings + Polished Aluminium Bonnet. The Indian registration was "2486" - barely visible in the photo.

The following picture of what I believe is RR SG 2328 is from our own TBHP! The "Phantom" in the caption is incorrect. He is from Hyderabadi nobility, not the Nizam.

Patiala RR SG 2334 is also in "The Edwardian R-R"

Just to point out, Khan Bahadur was a title bestowed on subjects for exceptional services rendered - making them almost nobility.

Travancore has, as always, cleared up the doubts.

True, in this case I believe it was the first of many titles bestowed on teh head of the Paigah Family before he was given the Amir e Paigah title

Does anyone remember actress Nadira having a Rolls Royce? Wiki mentions

She was well paid for her efforts and was one of the first Indian actresses to own a Rolls-Royce.

There is a very high possibility that this car is not in India. This car was ordered when Martanda Tondaiman was the king and delivered during his reign. He spent his latter part of his life in London (around 1916-1921) and then latter moved to Cannes, France where he died in May 1928. Last I heard was that this car was taken by the Raja when he moved out of India and used by him in London.

I will enquire with my friend in this regard. He has also told me that the Raja had couple of American Classics. Will try my best to get photographs if they exist.

re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

A 20hp is illustrated in this trading card, mentioning it to be the oldest surviving 20hp and in India till 1969. Can this be substantiated?
