You are right, they have used some sort of an embroidered tapestry / fabric.

It is a Silver Ghost, chassis 21PP.

The location is the St.Stephens Church in Ooty, which remains virtually unaltered.

Re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

Maharawal Natwarsinhji, the ruler of Chota Udaipur in the 1930's, owned this 1937 Rolls Royce Phantom that he had custom-built for himself, with a gilded interior, designed to look like a railway saloon, so that it created the illusion of travelling by train. The car had a second dashboard specially installed at the back, so that its royal passengers could see keep track of its speed and mileage.
Nice car indeed. Where is she currently?

Cheers harit

Re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

The car in the B&W photo is 3BT155, a car with no India connection. The Chhota Udepur car is indeed 3BT75, a body that was originally on a Daimler. That is the blue car in the later photo; it is in the Bhogilal collection.

First owner: Prince, Pratap Singhrao Gaekwad (1908 –1968) the 13th Maharaja of Baroda. As Best Car in the World The Phantom II was a worthy successor to the Silver Ghost and the New Phantom. A total of 1767 Phantom II chassis were built between 1929 and 1935. These were all commissioned by the buyers, to taste, with renowned coach builders and under the auspices of Rolls Royce Ltd, equipped with special bodywork. The history of this real globetrotter Phantom II chassis number 70WJ is fully known and documented
Has this advt. for sale been posted here ? I cant find it though !

It may be chassis #70WJ, but the body was totally altered in the sixties unfortunately...

Re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

Another picture of #71DC taken in 1970, I believe the owner in the picture is Bill Meredith Owens who bought the car in India and according to the story drove it back to England.

I wonder which car this could be... perhaps GHO43, 25/30HP Thrupp and Maberly Saloon? Now registered CH 03 0067. Or perhaps the Phantom III 3BU82 now with Bhogilal? The former seems more likely to me.
