The car is a RR Phantom 1, owned by H.E. Wali ud Dowla Bahadur Prime Minister of Hyderabad. Supposed to be the most famous Phantom, considered to be the real Diamond of Hyderabad.
If someone has the latest pictures of this car, please post.

Cheers harit
There is a picture of the car (Chassis 71-DC) posted earlier (#579). I know there are a few more on this thread

Steve that has to be the understatement of the month !! "Delighted" is the word to express how it feels to read your account and a hearty welcome to the forum. Thanks a ton for sharing details of the obviously brilliant work you and your team have carried out. I had seen this car in person in Umaid Bhavan palace and I'm sure it must have been a real joy to work on something so well preserved with a rich history

Looking forward to more pictures from your side. Would be a real education for most of us.

Thanks again

That is truly amazing! Were they popular fitments to contemporary Rolls Royces of the era? Do share some pictures of the mechanism with us.

I also remember reading most of these cars were in Mashobra near Shimla and there had been a fire or something. Later I think the cars were shifted back to Faridkot to be part of a museum. Thankfully I think this collection is a part of a trust so it may remain intact.
Would you happen to have the link to the video? Who was the Maharaja who got these?

Watched Bond movie Octopussy on TV recently. Shot in India in the early 80s.

Kabir Bedi and the baddies drive around in what looked like a black Rolls probably from 30s or 40s. Any idea about this car?

PS: My apologies if this has been discussed already

That was a 1934 R-R Phantom II by Windovers (Chassis 181-RY). The car is now in the Udaipur Collection (Regn: RSY-1). There are many pictures on this site. The car's original owner was the Maharaja of Rajpipla. Hope that helps

17 EX Ownership History

Beklow is the link to the listing for 17 EX from the RM Auctions website detailing the chain of ownership of this car.

An interesting point is that at one point the car was with the Mitter Family in Calcutta. There is also a mention of two Duesenbergs which were also owned by them.

Would be interesting if someone from Calcutta was able to meet the current members of the Mitter Family to learn more about what happened to the Duesenbergs.
