re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

Not a car from India, but I was watching this movie last night called 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice' starring Nicholas Cage. And he drives this smashing RR Phantom! The sharpness of this car's coachwork stunned me, my jaws dropped What a beaut. I forgot about all other RR's I'd seen.

Apparently was owned by the actor himself for sometime.

RR gurus on the forum, do we know the history of this car?

cheers

The Man Who Sold his Rolls Royce
While digging for more info on this 1937 Hooper bodied Darbhanga RR, found this excerpt from a book "Ocean in a Tea Cup - Ray Houserman"

One of the high moments was the presentation of 1937 Rolls Royce, body by Hooper, to Thakur by an old cisciple, B. K. Kapoor. Arriving in Deoghar early in afternoon in the spring of 1968, Thakur was seated in the back seat with Bor’da, Kajal and Kapur seated on the floor at his feet. Bankim-da beside me in the front, I chauffered the huge, ornate masterpiece of machinery aound Deoghar to Jasidiih. It was a high moment for Kapur and even today sitting majestically in the car museum in the ashram, this empress among automobiles still evokes momories of that day.

Any More Pics or info of the car, it is kept at Satsang Ashram of Sri Sri Thakur Anukul Chandra at Deoghar.

This is more info for "BRN-6666" than I have seen before, thanks!

The problem though is that "1937" would probably make it a R-R Phantom III; and all Darbhanga PIII's are accounted for. Was there another one ???

The car in the museum is a post 58SK Phantom II. (25/30HP, Wraiths & PIIIs had 2x7 radiator shutters)

re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

A lot of Packards in Europe had Marchal headlamps too so I guess it's more a regulation that mandated fitment of these lamps.

Came across this Rolls and the rear of the snap of the car says 1936 V 12 . I say it's a 20/25 due to the size but can be wrong . I see a MRJ number

Can anyone give some information

Cheers

re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

I think the black and cream car is registered MRJ1936, which makes it Phantom III 3AZ198, a Hooper limousine used as the RR demonstration car, and then used by the British Army C-in-C in India. Now owned in Indore, I understand.

See page 30 of this thread, post 445. This car resided in Pune and Chembur in Mumbai, then went to Chennai, finally landed in Indore. I would suspect that this picture was taken in Indore.

re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

Is this the same as the Baroda PIII, the one with leopard skin carpet, now a pale blue and dark blue combination with Mr. Sanghi? It's too cumbersome to hunt back into this thread to verify, but perhaps someone remembers the car number to be the same?

No DKG, they are two different cars. This one in a sorry state was shown earlier as mentioned in the previous post:

The Baroda (originally Green + Leopard Skin) car is Chassis 3CP112 ; regn GJB-3319 shown on post 312

Hi Kasli,
A small suggestion, take your time to read the posts, and also refer to old posts in this thread. Then you would not have to hope, the car was apparently resored (back).
But for you, a recap. This car, a PIII, was red in colour, sat at a petrol pump in Pune (if I remember correctly, DKG had spoken about this and we identified the car at that time also), came to Mumbai Chembur, got in a court mess, shifted to Chennai, and finally landed in Indore. Since pictures of this mess-up car are seen, and earlier she was red, I presume that your picture is post restoration in Indore. Perhaps you can ask uncle in Indore to check this out for us.

Cheers harit
