Again, not much of an update, but we recently learnt that the Jackie Shroff SS100 has changed hands, moving to Hyderabad.

Re: Prewar Jaguars in India

Hello ,

I was offerred a Mark IV 2 1/2 litre post war car , it was located at Purnea in Bihar , somebody else picked it up ( no information about the current owner ). Photograph will be posted a few days hence when I return home.

There were 3 cars offered for sale in Delhi all Mark IV's - 2 of them were 2 1/2 litre cars and the third was a 3 1/2 liter version . I went and had a look - this was a couple of years back. The asking price beyond my budget.

There is another Mark IV 1 1/2 litre getting ready in Lucknow.

Regards
Chauhan

Re: Prewar Jaguars in India

Hello Everyone,

I'm completely uninformed on these old vintage cars. Can someone tell me how much these Prewar Jags go for in India?
I've always wondered about the value of vintage cars in general though but since this is a Jag thread...

Thanks!

Hello Maky ,

Vintage car valuation is a minefield , suggest you refer to the most confusing thread in this forum - which is on this subject. You will realise how arbitrary the pricing is.
A Jaguar today in India would be priced as per the sellers asking.

Isn't this car in Jamshedpur getting worked on. Some truck company owner .. It's last I recall mechanically set but body work pending a slow restoration 2005 or earlier ..

Cheers

Re: Prewar Jaguars in India

Reviving an old thread:

A very long time ago (probably sometime around 2004-5), I had seen an old Jaguar at Hotel Tripura castle at Shillong, Meghalaya. It seems to be a late 40s Mark-V, but I can’t say for sure. It did not seem to be a running car, but looked decent cosmetically and had been put up for display by the hotel along with a Dodge Kingsway wagon. I did not click any pictures then since in those days, mobile phones didn’t have cameras, but I found this picture from the Hotel’s Facebook page. Does anybody have any idea if the car is still lying there or has it been restored? I think the castle as well as the car were under royal ownership before the place was converted to a hotel.

I was really eager to know what happened to this Jaguar, so drove down to Shillong. Came to know that the Jaguar and the Dodge have both been sold to collectors in Delhi/Kolkata. The place only has a Wrangler, an Innova and an old Ambassador. Sad to know that the car got separated from the castle, but would be happy if it has been restored.

Could the car in the 3rd picture of the above post and the one I am talking about be the same one? As I have mentioned in the post just before this one, the caretaker at that palace did say that the cars have gone to collectors in Delhi and Kolkata. Could this Meghalaya Jaguar have eventually ended up in Delhi? Does anyone know what eventually became of MLS 4102?
