APU 4627 is a Harley Wasif. It looks to be a 47/48.

The Indian is the one with the side car

You have any idea, which is the tricycle-bike?

I just went through the whole thread, and was wondering if restoration was in the cards. All's well that ends well

BTW, How many cars are they paying for? Is the restoration happening in India? By who? WIP pics?

Just the Rolls is being done up in Indore by Mr. Manvendra Singh. I don't have details of WIP pictures etc. It will be on display at the forthcoming Cartier event so I guess we all have to wait until then.

Yet, even many of the oldtimers give varied answers about the chronology of the registrations, therefore Ive decided to refer to cars with original registrations as templates.

'might sound a bit for this section but APX 3333 for instance can safely be taken as a mid 50s standard 10:

Attachment 53790

Whereas APY 216 is a 1961 Pennant and going by the 3 digits, this series couldnt have started the same time as APX. Nor is there any chance of the particular number preceeding the manufacture of the car.

Attachment 53791

Having seen many 60s vehicles, APU was then succeeded by ADX and AAX seemed to have been introduced shortly later, eventually co-existing with ADX. ADY seemed to have co-existed with ADX though.

'sounds a bit mind-boggling for now I guess!

May I know what road in Banjara hills btw?
APX was mid 50s APY was mid 60s.
The chronology I think can safely be referred as APX was around 50s and APY as around 60s. Have had both of these registration vehicles and grown up listening to all this. ... and this was for the entire Nizam Province. The ones I know.. APX was registered in Hyderabad and APY was in some place in Guntur.

cheers,

Absolutely. As I said, the reg no.s were for the entire Nizam province, as it seems. APY was for Hyderabad as well as for Guntur.Since both of them were (and are) under one state. May be the numbers had quotas too (like 1-x for HYD x-y for some other place etc).. who knows.

Guntur and Hyd. never shared any of the old AP regn. series.

Guntur was APG (then ADG/AAG/ATG and so on later)

APY was only for hyd. from the early 60s (although someone earlier said it came out the same time as APX and represented the 'Atraaf baldiya', I'm positive it came out post 1950s and was for hyd. only as well) and was succeeded immediately by APU.

I base my knowledge on the information I know, and you base it on yours.
So, cheers mate. May be we have different versions.
Atraaf baldiya, btw, could just mean a Municipality. I have lived around the erstwhile MCH building and have grown up around a 'baldiya' building as such. and atraaf, by a quick google shows the meaning as 'around/environment', so am not sure what an atraaf baldiya would mean.

cheers,

Hello Folks,

A Rolls-Royce from the Nizam's car collection that was recently restored was on display at the Chowmahalla Palace today, 31st March 2011. The high tea event started at 5:30 PM. There was a good crowd and a few local news channels also covered the event. Here are the pictures of the car. Enjoy!!

Good show. This is exactly why I was happy when I heard that this Rolls is being restored. Perhaps it would not be standing there for years to come if it was not for this. Great.

Cheers harit
