A previously unidentified car has been identified in a newer and enlarged edition of Bentley Fifty Years of The Marque. Here it is.....

Here is another photo of Duesenberg J585 that shows the colours reversed. Does anyone know the colours when later in India / owned by Sheik Mukthar ?

Looks like it "escaped" in 1959 - bought by a relative of Brewster (the coachbuilders). It was advertised for $8000.

Being built by an English coachbuilder, it originally had black sidewalls.

In the SOP's for Classic Cars thread, Harit had pondered the fate of the Holkar Bentley.

I could not help noticing that HSC-8 and the Rampur Bentley seem to have been at the same place around the same time - as the photos below show (both posted before)

The Holkar Bentley was apparently exchanged for a Landcruiser (which sadly met with an accident). The Bentley I gather is in the middle east, maybe Qatar (I could be wrong about which embassy)

This place may be Sanghi's yard in Indore?

I think one of the previous auto Indias had a picture of shiekh Muktiar posing with the Dusenberg. I think it was colour photograph. I will go home and find it.

I had put an article in an Auto India issue in this year on Star's and their cars. After all the Sheikh was an actor, a star. It was a colour photo, but of the Cadillac V-16, not the Duesenberg. And this photo was a new one, not the earlier which has been in circulation for a while.

Harit must know about these as these pictures came to me from his friends the Solanki's, they were saying these two Bentleys were on sale in Delhi at the time around mid 1990's

Recently moralfibre shared an interesting link with me, a Bombay High Court account of a historic murder case that took place in 1925.

With all the makings of a best seller, it sprung from a jilted mistress and her new lover, and her jealous former Master, the erstwhile ruler of Indore. The Maharaja allegedly sent assassins after her, and they were driving a red Maxwell - a brand which I had only vaguely heard of before as being American. It must have been a rare sight event then presumably.

A couple of days later, by sheer coincidence, I was chatting with an elderly gent in Pune about the good ol' days

and he was talking about his grandfather's cars. One of them was a red Maxwell, that had been earlier involved in a sensational murder case in Bombay. What are the odds!

Regrettably no more details or photos of the car are available.
