Its my pleasue to have been of any assistance at all.

The chrome on the car and the paint are indeed looking vey nice now.

At first I was not particularly taken with the colour combo you had gone with but now it si looking pretty neat.

Looking forward to see pics of the car when it is fully completed.

I noticed the Tripp driving light on the front which turns with the steering. Do you have all the linkages to make this work ? It would be pretty nice to see and very unusual to find in working condition on any car of similar vintage.

Yes this light is in full working condition. The glass had to be replaced and the reflector was redone with silver plating. This light came with the car. We were lucky, I guess.

Cheers

Thanks for the wonderful response to this build up. We too are very excited as the car should be ready soon. I will next post pictures when the car is ready.

Pavan, we have not fixed any particular time line as we are all enjoying this journey of restoration. At this pace we are able to identify gaps in our restoration and take corrective action.

The chrome has been at Vijaylakhshmi Enterprises in Bangalore.

Cheers

RC Book and Details

I am happy to post the details as taken from the photographs of the original RC Book and also some history on the papers

The first picture is the front page of the RC Book. Since Bellary came under the Province of Madras under British India, the RC reflects this.

The second set of pictures is the reflect pages of the RC Book showing that
  1. Original Owner is Mr. G V C Naidu, The Distillery, Bellary
  2. Car was orginally registered as MDB 260, Bellary being the Province of Madras
  3. Reassigned as MYL 436 (MYL is actually Belgaum) in 1946
  4. Reassigned as MYE 2413 in 1958
  5. Duplicate RC Book Issued in 1961.
  6. It is pressumed that the number was reassigned to MYY 318 in 1963.

The car had a trailer since 1945 as there is evidence that the first tax paid for the trailer was in 30-06-1945. You may recollect that I had written earlier that the trailer got burnt about 15 years back. I wish that the trailer had survived.

The next set of pictures shows the fuel rationing from 09-08-1941 to 05-08-1947. Amazing isn't it. I could not figure of the unit of measurement. It must be some form of recording gallons.

The last picture shows that Tyre Sizes officially recorded in 21-09-1943. You may recollect that even tyres were rationed during war time.

1932 Plymouth PB Seven Passenger Delux Sedan-rc-7.jpg

The car was inherited by the first son Mr. G C Amarendra Naidu in 1964. This car has been with one family from 1933 (car manufactured in 1932) to 2009, a total of 76 years!

Since this has been a Karnataka car through out its life and the owner was available we were able to update the registration papers without much problems. Guess we have been lucky with this car.

Cheers

That is quite a treasure, very few are as lucky as you. Im not positive that MDB would be the first regn though. Cedric, can you shed some light?

Were you able to access any period photos of the car when with the original owners? Hopefully showing the trailor.

Dear Karl,

If you look closely at the RC Book, the handwriting of the Black ink appears the same. Hence the MDB and Bellary address seems to the in the same handwriting and ink. There is also a MCP number mention(note after 260 overwriting). The car war reassigned to MYL in 1956 (I had earlier wrongly noted 1946). In 1956, I understand Bellary became part of Karnataka when the States got reorganized.

I have been trying to get some photos from the previous owners but unfortuantely the next generation do not seem to have retained any photographs. I am still hopeful that they will find some old photos.

cheers

Hi KPS and all interested,

I am fortunate to have a few original registration books with some of my cars. And due to Sabinesnubbing and his posts, I have looked deeper into books than most have. There is more info than you have been able to glean from the book.
Your car is 1932/33. You say 1932, the book says 1933, probably it is 1932 and was registered for the first time in India in 1933. That is a common mistake, and the club will tell you the correct year. Small point, no issue.
The first registration was MCP 6524, with the P written below MC on the number plate. And probably registered in 1933. I have photos of a Singer registered like this.
Now see the date of registration, 6-2-1941. That is when the car was re-registered MDB 260. And a new book was issued which now is the oldest book with maximum information. Interesting is that in Bombay State all cars were registered in 1940. The new motorvehicle act came in in 1939, see the date of the act. Now one can safely presume that re-registration in many states was done in 1940/41. No idea about Bengal, as there I have seen 195..0's odd.
Such original books, re-registered but original from that date are rare. These "original" books contain a lot of info which are always lost when duplicate books are issued. In my books I see petrol ration details, and also tyre serial nos. During war time these were premium items.
Bombay state also had reassignment of registration numbers when Gujrat and Maharashtra separated. BYA was an Ahmedabad series, this became GCY. New books were issued and the old number assigned was mentioned in the book. There is no BYA registration existing.

Thanks for sharing pictures of the book. Since you shared, I also thought that I should share the info read from it. Because some could not

Now I would like to see pictures of that car on the road in full, sunlight.

Cheers harit

Thanks Mr. Harit for this insight. You narration indeed answered few of my doubts too. Sure all of us have learnt something new because of your post.

This car is a definitely a 1932. The Plymouth PB was manufactured only between 4th Feb'1932 and ended on 27th Sept'1932 and a total of 83940 units were built. The PB is the last model with 4 cyl. engines for Plymouth in that era. The next model was PCxx which was a 6 cyl. engine.

Cheers

Wow, what a treat! Surely a refreshing sight in a usual Bangalore traffic!

The car appears to be a '56 Dodge Kingsway.

Such pic.s can be posted in the thread "Pics: Vintage and Classic cars in India":
