Hi Counsel

This is definately a BSA Paratrooper however a few things on it look like an aftermarket like The Handle Bar, The front light, The Mudguards, These never came with an Oil Bath Chain Cover (chain guard) and were always in Army Green

I still like it

Mr. PB if you haven't seen one like that cute scoot guess you have seen the one as posted here.

Just few days before a place near where I pulled you out from that bus & pushed in to my Indica that afternoon (@ Coimbatore), I saw this TVS Miniped (30cc), converted to a Bicycle by some senior citizen. Guess he is not bothered about too negative rake angle fork, for sure it will be bit difficult to handle. Think he might have thought other way (get a kg of onions rather than a liter of gas).

Note that front brake - it's not disc, it is efficient drum though! Great stuff!

Re: Vintage and classic Bicycles in India

Got this pasley Birmingham rickshaw yesterday. It has never been put together and some of the fitments are still in the original packing. It has both the rear wheels with drum brakes.

Also got an old photo of the rickshaw from the owner.
If some body can put some light it shall be great.

I just saw this post, Superb boss where did you manage a NOS rickshaw? anyways treat it with care.

I would leave is disassembled till I found a suitable place to display it like maybe a museum, is there any number on the frame, look below where the saddle should fit. I am told by a certain source that these were very popular in the East of the country even in Burma and south east asia. Where did you find this example?

A great entry in the Cartier Concourse under the preservation class.
On a serious note, suggest that you get in touch with some graphic co and get that coloured sticker reproduced, atleast in the form of an art work. That should be preserved.
Nice find.

Cheers harit

Re: The Bicycles thread

This old Royal Enfield Fire Fly was lying with my sister for a while in Yercaud. It came with some property she bought long time back.
I got this restored at Probikers last week.

Except chain and spokes, all are original parts.

The Raleigh bicycles are once again available for a couple of years now. I was elated to find the "classic men" in a shop in Kerala last month. So, when I returned to Lucknow, I enquired and it is available on order. The dealer did not appear keen to get a green and says black is available more easily. I think the suncross company of Ludhiana is making it available. Parts are coming from Srilanka etc. The days of CCIL Asansol are history in our times.

I think I will also look for a Town 26 SS model soon.

The Humber and Robinhood are nonetheless nowhere to be traced. Eternally gone :(

The last Humber I saw was in early 90s in my home town, but it was in good condition then.

Vip.

Re: Vintage and classic Bicycles in India

I found this Driving Licence for bicycles. Gondal State used to issue the Driving licence to bicycle owners back in the 1930s. This Driving Licence is in the Gujarati Language. I "tried " my best to translate it into English.

3. Bicycle rider must stop when police ask him /her to do so.
4. If a rented bicycle is used to commit a crime, the original owner is liable to give bicycle user's name and address.
5. The court will charge Rs. 5 to the rider who violates above rules.

2. Always keep bell and brakes in proper working condition.
