Photologue: 'Ride for Safety' Motorcycle Rally

It all started with fellow BHPian cartman telling me about a suberbike gathering that was supposed to take place in the early hours of 8th Dec. As the day approached, more concrete details emerged and I realized that its a "Ride for Safety" bike rally. A proper event for all bikes with proper event-registrations formalities, event sponsors and a solid backing from the Mumbai RTO.

Date: 8th Dec 2013, Sunday.
Place: Bandra-Kurla-Complex (BKC), Mumbai

Got up at around 5:30am. Me and my son got ready. Cartman and Adishenoy dropped in around 6:45am and we decided to take only my car to BKC where the rally was supposed to be flagged off. A quick call to superbee and even he joined us in Powai in his freshly detailed FFE Swift.

The flag-off was supposed to be at 7:30AM. We reached 15 minutes before and parked very close to the starting point. We had seen a few groups of bikers on our way to the venue. Slowly but steadily more and more bikes started trickling in. I am not going to bore you with text and this is going to be a photolog from this point onwards.

The celebrity guest arrived and was quickly whisked away to the podium.
Photologue: 'Ride for Safety' Motorcycle Rally-dsc_1534.jpg

He said "You know what we call guys who don't wear helmets? We call them: Organ-Donors." "Wearing helmets is the first thing that you do when you learn biking." etc etc
Photologue: 'Ride for Safety' Motorcycle Rally-dsc_1551.jpg

Fluorescent wheels.
Photologue: 'Ride for Safety' Motorcycle Rally-dsc_1630.jpg

The traffic cops insisted on helmets for pillion riders as well and rare examples like this guy were asked to get off the bike at the starting point.
Photologue: 'Ride for Safety' Motorcycle Rally-dsc_1634.jpg

The Pulsar 200 NS guys made their presence felt by riding in a neat formation.
Photologue: 'Ride for Safety' Motorcycle Rally-dsc_1636.jpg

Projector headlights and angel-eyes seemed quite popular with CBR250 and R15 guys.
Photologue: 'Ride for Safety' Motorcycle Rally-dsc_1644.jpg

New Ninja 300

Another one

RD350 guys even wore the same design tee-shirts.

Transfigure guys, if you are reading this, please do something about those LED headlamps. They scream "Chinese" and don't gel at all with the rest of the bike. Just a humble feedback/opinion.
Photologue: 'Ride for Safety' Motorcycle Rally-dsc_1667.jpg

Photologue: 'Ride for Safety' Motorcycle Rally-dsc_1669.jpg

Photologue: 'Ride for Safety' Motorcycle Rally-dsc_1672.jpg

In 10 minutes all bikes were gone and we were staring at a empty lane and the banner.
Photologue: 'Ride for Safety' Motorcycle Rally-dsc_1673.jpg

I have noting against "Wheelie-Boy", in fact don't even know that they do, but we found it amusing that they were part of the sponsors for a "Ride for Safety" rally.
The announcer (apparently from the RTO), was asking the bikes to switch off their headlights claiming that it was a violation of the traffic-law.

There were very few Harleys. Did not spot any R1. No Ducatis either. :(

Still, lots of eye-candy. Perfect Sunday-morning!!

Sanjay, wheelieboy preaches stunting with safety and that, not on public roads.

I have seen him stunting with a chetak and very few can do that on a chetak.

Thanks for sharing so many beautiful bikes Some observation -
RD guys have their helmet strapped up, few other bikers don't.

Few have proper riding shoes, its sneakers, sports shoes. In a ride which aims for safety, this should be taken in consideration.

Not here to preach, so I found the '13 Repsol 'blade to be very good liking. A hint of classics IMO. Another good one was the GSX-R 1000 in Alstare wraps. The FZ-1 with Italian lower fairing appealed as well. And 600's always appear beautiful. The RD with the red theme deserves a mention as well.

And the announcer should have been notified as to how the bike's headlamps get activated as soon as the ignition is switched on.

re: Photologue: 'Ride for Safety' Motorcycle Rally

Wow.
How much time did you take to shoot so many bikes?

I did not attend the event, but thanks to you, I just did.

The best image IMO, is the one with the RTO cops - just because THEY are wearing helmets. It is a common sight to see them scooting around without a helmet, on the wrong side, jumping signals. All in the name of law.

Overall, the event looks pretty well organised, since you mentioned they made pillions without helmets get off the bike.

Nice Pics SDP, Thanks for sharing. A bit disturbing is folks riding with their kids, even though they were geared up. Safety does not just mean riding with a helmet/jacket, it also means you follow all precautions.

+1 on that. I also see a couple of riders, riding with earphones in their helmets. I believe that is a safety hazard too.

And the whole ride seems to have been organised fantastically and the bikes are a real eyecandies

Yeah Bro, we tried our level best to make this event an EPIC for all of us. unfortunately we had one or 2 exceptional case who came from nowhere in the Mid of the Rally without Helmet and our Marshall's tried to Chuck them out but they started abusing etc.

Nevertheless, it was an awesome experience for all of Us...

Small Bit from Our end to change the mind set against the Biking Community.

Hey WB,

Thanks for clarifying. I hindsight, my careless comments about you without knowing enough about you and what you do, were uncalled for. Sorry about that.

The event was well organized and the turnout was impressive. As I mentioned, it definitely made my day and waking up early on that Sunday morning was totally worth it.

Thanks for your efforts and all the best!

Hope to bump into you in a similar event in the future.

regards
