Droom will sell ISI Helmet for INR 9/- on 15 Jun 2017 as a part of promoting 2 wheeler safety. They have run similar campaigns in the past and seeing the great response they received, have come up with another round of sales.

I just love when some guys lead by example. Hats off to the team for doing multiple rounds of sale.

More details in this Rushlane link.

I somehow thought I could get any helmet for Rs 9 and headed to the site with the grand idea of getting something similar to my Rs4000-5000 LS2 helmet for Rs 9. Took a moment to realize how absurd my expectation was.lol:

Good initiative. No doubt people will take advantage of it. Hope buyers actually use it and not attempt to go sell it for Rs 200.

Interesting move!

Even in today's extremely competitive e-Commerce space, it's hard to believe a 99% discount:

So what's the catch? Well...

1) An initiative like this gives the droom brand free publicity

2) An offer like this drives more traffic to the site (which has several other aspects to it)

3) The Rs. 9/- helmets carry branding of droom products! It's good advertising for them too. :)

Still, it's an offer that most 2-wheeler riders in India should take up!!

There is also a catch that there is no way to find what size it is. I think all BHPians should order one and hand it over in the next signal to someone riding without a helmet. Better than donating 10rs to the bum begging in the signal.

I am getting one and going to donate it.

Edit - I tried multiple times but no way to get to the point of placing the order. I had to give up. If someone has success please report.

Hmm... true. Can't get past the "Enter your PIN code" -- which is the first step to place an order!

I got past that step and it got added to my cart. Now i am not able to access my cart! :Frustrati

Edit: I could access my cart, apply GETHELMET code and then saw the price coming down to Rs 9 from 750. But I was not able to check out the item.

The thing is that its taking a hell lot of time to open a new page after every click and then it ultimately crashes!

Open cart -> Enter promotional code -> Proceed to checkout -> Enter Address -> Confirm Address -> Select Payment method.. and after all this mayhem it crashes and says, "oops, we are suddenly famous" :)
Then we have to start from the beginning all over.

Not worth it IMO.

Smart marketing nonetheless.:thumbs up

EDIT:

I was successfully able to make the payment but got a text message that said my order will be confirmed within 72 hours post verification as per T&C.

So let's see what that catch is.

the 950 gram weight says it all about our ISI standards. :uncontrol

I feel like this is a joke. They should never promote the idea that helmets and safety comes cheap. Even educated folks are busy saving money buying middle variant Marutis so that they can fit some alloys and HIDs :Frustrati I bet this thing also comes in only one size: Large. So here we have it, a Large helmet, weighing 950 grams with an ISI mark. Really pathetic state of affairs here in this country where the government standards, business and public interest remains in promoting a delusional sense of safety. Whether it be 9 rupees or 900 rupees or even 1 rupee, I find this to be a waste of time and money.

I ordered the helmet in a sale around a month back and got the helmet delivered as well. Using it daily. Its as good as studds/vega helmet which costs around 700. Quality of the strap is below average. Refer attached picture

I do not see anything funny here. See this Vega Helmet in Amazon which is 798 grams. I am not saying this is 100% genuine product. But, weight wise, this is in comparison with other helmets

As long as it protects over bare head i think 9 rs is a good spend for anyone. And I dont want a 200kg helmet to prove its stronger. It will definitely be stronger for you will not be driving and just wearing it and probably lying down safe in your home :)

The ISI standard does some tests which has nothing to do with helmet weights. As long as it satisfies the needs I think it should be fine.

And if i am right the ISI standards are pretty good and may probably have not gone through the last generation of updates compared to Snell or DOT. I think I read that standard testing procedure to get ISI certificate and its pretty detailed.

Only concern I may have is the legality of this ISI if it was tested and provided or if it was bought out through money. That's the biggest concern I have with new brands.

You are right in saying 'something is better than nothing' however I am of the stance that atleast us educated folk should not promote the belief that such cheaply constructed soup bowls can pass off as safety gear.

ISI is supposed to be India's equivalent to ECE and DOT and typically ECE or DOT rated PolyCarb helmets that don't use high-end materials like aramid fibers, kevlar, carbon fiber etc, weigh in at around 1500 grams (across all brands be it european, american or japanese). This is not the same as crash safety tests that cars undergo. A helmet does not have the sheer size and other non-safety related elements that a car does, that it's weight can vary so much. Even the lightest Snell or ACU gold star, track certified helmet in the world, would not weigh a mere 950 grams even with full carbon fiber construction. That's just to give you an idea. What makes you say ISI standards are pretty good knowing that European and american equivalents (ECE and DOT) weigh in at more than 150% of the weight of this ISI certified nonsense? Did you also know that ISI certification is compliance based. Which means that it is upto the manufacturer to test and certify their helmets and slap an ISI sticker on them and declare them ISI compliant.

Now either our Indian helmet manufacturers are a bunch of geniuses and have found some patented form of plastic that performs better than carbon fiber, aramid fibers and kevlar, nevermind basic polycarbonates, that they don't even need to use so much of this wonder material (only 950 grams) to achieve a safety standard certification, or they just slap these stickers on every helmet they make and are simply fooling you. Considering our country's well known love for ethics which would you rather believe? ;)

While I agree with you that these helmets are not good quality safety gear, I would say that all of us should order these and give them to our staff like drivers, office peons etc. or just give to someone we see on a two-wheeler without a helmet. There are many people who aren't fortunate enough (or perhaps educated enough) to pay big bucks for a helmet. For them, this Droom branded helmet is certainly better than the trash helmets sold roadside for Rs. 100-200 which will crack at the slightest of drops.

For the reason listed above, I ordered the Droom helmet for my office peon. It took multiple attempts to order it though. On every try, I was able to go one step ahead but couldn't reach the payment stage. Waited for a few hours and tried again, it worked. Lets see when does the helmet get delivered and what colour is it :)
