Thank God for better sense prevailing after all. This is pretty much what I asked earlier on:

The question is, why does BTP need a letter from BIS for this, why can't they figure this common sense fact on their own? Such a criminal waste of scarce government resources and time!

Earlier the favorite pass time for BTP was to stop people without helmets, later it got extended to pillions too

Now I can see them stare at the bikers from behind just to make sure there is ISI

Another video worth discussing -

Droom ISI helmet being torn to pieces with bare hands. Droom reiterates the helmet meets ISI standards as can be seen in the comments section.

re: Only ISI Helmet, says Bangalore Traffic Police. EDIT: Order reintroduced

Well, the order being withdrawn a foregone conclusion. But it did bring about one refreshing change. Over 40 years of riding 2 wheelers, and my father still refuses to accept the value of good protective gear. Multiple arguments, multiple (thankfully minor) accidents with broken teeth, multiple instances of being gifted with good quality gear.. nothing helped. He always rode around with those 100Rs roadside plastic "helmets" purely to evade fines from the cops!
Fast forward to Feb 2018, he went and purchased a full face, ISI branded helmet on his own violation ! It's definitely a gigantic improvement over the poor quality caps he used to wear previously! Once he gets used to full face helmets, maybe I'll get him a good DOT/ECE rated can next

My goodness. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at that video. God save us from our rule makers.

Helmet Not Compulsory In Summer: Government Relaxes Rule In 9 Districts

Quote:
Bengaluru: Summer has begun in right earnest in many parts of the state. The summer heat is already unbearable in many North Karnataka districts.

Therefore the state government has relaxed the rule on wearing helmets in these districts. It is not compulsory to wear helmets in 9 districts of the North Karnataka. These districts are Bellari, Rayachur, Bidar, Kalaburgi, Koppala, Vijayapura, Bagalakote, Yadagiri and Belagavi districts.

The two-wheeler riders who were finding it difficult to ride in the hot summer with helmets are breathing more than a sigh of relief after the order from the government.

As if people in those districts wear helmets otherwise!
Next what? Similar to Pune and Chennai, people in other districts will go on strike demanding the same rule to be applied to them?

re: Only ISI Helmet, says Bangalore Traffic Police. EDIT: Order reintroduced

Bengaluru Traffic Police may again enforce ISI helmet rule in Bengaluru.

Wearing non-ISI helmet in Bengaluru? Get ready to pay fine.

Quote:
The traffic police will bring back a suspended ban on non-ISI helmets.

Riders found wearing substandard helmets (half or cap helmets) that do not offer adequate head protection will be educated and warned over the next 15 days and penalised thereafter for riding without a helmet, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) B R Ravikanthe Gowda announced on Friday. The fine for helmetless riding is Rs 500 in Bengaluru. The ban will apply to pillion riders, too.

The ban on non-ISI helmets was once implemented briefly but was withdrawn following a public outcry. One of the reasons given by critics was that police personnel themselves wear half or cap helmets.

Traffic cops now say it’s time to enforce the ban once again in view of rising fatalities caused by these substandard helmets.

re: Only ISI Helmet, says Bangalore Traffic Police. EDIT: Order reintroduced

And in the mean time people are actually wearing helmet caps that are not fastened to the rider and they fly off the head at some 50 kmph. I see the mangled remains of these caps on the roads regularly. Helmets used by bicycle riders and construction PPE helmets are a common sight too.

What is a realistic benchmark the Govt can implement to fine people for not wearing helmets that protect the person in an accident?

re: Only ISI Helmet, says Bangalore Traffic Police. EDIT: Order reintroduced

Bengaluru Traffic Police has started campaign against non-ISI helmet. Looks like initially it is awareness campaign for few days. We may need to append the thread with reintroduced.

Re: Only ISI Helmet, says Bangalore Traffic Police. EDIT: Order reintroduced

Has Bangalore traffic police started to fine commuters with non-isi standards? I'm on a weekend trip to blr and have MT without ISI. I do not want to be harrased for the helmet
