Yes, but I figured if I bought it I would use half face only for photo shoots (not a bad idea), but when full face, it won't be as sturdy as a full face helmet.

You have the right concerns. This helmet really won't do wonders for your chin in case of a crash.
I try to stay away from modular helmets; as good as they look, one won't look so good coming out of a crash wearing them.

Guys, complete noob here about bikes!

I've been looking at different helmets and was wondering about the difference between these two types of helmets:

2)


In terms of safety and comfort what would be better for normal street riding?

To me it seem like 2) would have better ventilation, besides looking cooler!

For the 2nd one, the Motocross helmet ,you would have to wear goggles to keep the dust and sand out of your eyes.

Safety wise, a full face offers maximum protection compared to any other helmet.

These days, you get full face lid's which provide excellent air flow and ventilation and it wont cost a bomb either.

LS2 and Cross provide good ventilation and air flow and you can get one for anything between 2k-4k.

Seems to be like a Motocross helmet with a visor (which would eliminate the need for goggles). Would this count as a full-face helmet?

^ The protruding part above the visor is really very brittle. 2 my my friends have such a helmet, and though they rarely wear one, it's almost on the verge of breaking. I would suggest you a full face helmet.

It fell down from his hands. Though the height wasn't much (2 feet I guess).

If you really like a motorcross helmet, why not use it as a secondary one? You get Vega motorcross for 1.5k and Glider for 1.1k in Mumbai.

Ok! Thanks for the info! I've always had a liking to the looks of the Motocross helmets so heart/head (literally ) situation!

Right now I have no ride - actually I've never ridden a bike (only scooter, for fun) but urge to ride is building! Would probably be going in for the FZ16.

AFAIK, most moto-x helmets which come with a visor only allow limited movement of the visor. I mean, the visor wont open fully like in a conventional full face lid.

Seems like a good choice otherwise. Go ahead. Inspect the helmet thoroughly for dings and dents before buying.

Aditya, what is your opinion regarding Cross helmets, they are Chinese make right? Any experience with these helmets or reviews so far? Are they good value for money?

Been using one for the last year and a half and I think its good value for money. Ventilation is good and so is the fit. However at speeds over 90 it isnt very stable, not too bad though. The tinted visor is also good, even after having used it for so long I am yet to face any light refraction issues at night (need to lower the visor if its too dusty and not too dark or someone has high beams on).


The other one i have is the Sparkx s07 which is brilliant but then costs twice as much in India. If you can have someone pick it up from the US it will cost you as much as the Cross and will be much better.
