Best bet is to buy a helmet with a DOT, SNELL or equivalent certification.

You can source Spartan or SparX helmets which are DOT certified. They should fit very snugly as with time the cheek pads wear in and they might become very loose.

These helmets should cost upwards of 5k.

thanks Aditya that helps!

Im OK with the cost, since there is no price too high for safety! (another reason both my cars have ABS and airbags- wouldn't drive one without it)

any idea where i can source them in Delhi/NCR?

My eyes are in good nick.....am turning 40 not 80

Most rides will be solo....
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motorb...post-78-a.html is a good place to start.

Personally I would suggest you buy a good helmet in India and if possible get someone to get you a very good helmet meeting ECE or Snell standards from the US.

Eye tests are recommended. Takes 30 min. Do it once a year.

Now lets get back to the Honda. But am sure your daughter is going to not let you ride solo.

I am traveling to SE Asia this weekend. will check out some riding gear and lids and maybe pick some up from there.. I am sure we will get ECE or Snell compliant lids there at a decent cost.

Awesome timing then.

Also don't forget to pick up your riding gear.

re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

When I was doing my due diligence on helmets, I found this faq on webBikeWorld:

http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcyc...helmet-faq.htm

Absolutely important info brilliantly written. Surprised that this was not linked to earlier on this thread.

Also, I bought the SOL SL68s Dragon helmet from Let's Gear Up (https://www.facebook.com/letsgearup.in) basically because they were around the corner from my house.

But was very impressed by the owner's, Sapna, knowledge and clear advice. Dont seem to be motivated only by short term sales. Advice is pertinent & helps close on the decision. Of course, she does upsell ("Buy the jacket too, instead of the bluetooth - your life is worth the money." I did!) but does not press if you decline.

On the whole a very good shopping experience. They seem to have a good range of motorbike related stuff.
(Mods: this is my personal experience and thought it appropriate to recommend them. If it is inappropriate, do let me know.)

re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

I really love the AGV Ti-Tech Replica, but, my wallet doesn't allow me to get it.
Also, AGV is not that easily available in Mumbai. (Except for imports)

Since AGV still has to be a dream, I got similar looking (Colours) wallet friendly LS2 Warrior. It cost me INR 2900.

I understand that most of these imported Helmets that are ECE or DOT certified may be better than the Indian manufactured ISI brands but one question keeps on coming to my mind. Are they legal? I do have a ECE certified LS2. Are cops targetting these? or have there been any recent changes in the rules to allow these?
was googling helment bluetooth devices and came across this 2011 TOI article about non ISI/imported helmets and bluetooth enabled helmets/headsets. http://articles.timesofindia.indiati...enabled-riders

If they are illegal then why are cops running behind the users why not the sellers?

I would rather wear a illegal helmet that I am sure is of better standards than wear a legal one with substandard quality.

with bblost. I'd rather wear a helmet that has passed stringent safety norms than one where the certification is questionable.

In my 3 years of riding the Ninja with a DOT certified lid, i have never been stopped by a cop.

re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

I own an LS2 now, but planning to buy a new one within 10k range to compliment my D390. My priorities are
1) Looks
2) Good build and finish
3) Should be able to keep wind noise away
4) Thick liners and pads

My LS2 has mirror coated visor which I like the most but don't see such in Sparx, KBC or HJC's. Is such visor available with those brands? I usually keep my visor scratch free so mirror coated won't be a problem. Guys please suggest one. Thanks in advance

Airoh should be a good contender according to your priorities. They are of pretty good quality. Although I'm not too sure if they come with mirror tinted visors. You may check with Bachoo Motors.

re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

Hi bHpians,

I am looking out for a good quality helmet, which I will need soon. Just recently booked Ninja650.

After going through the forum I really liked Nexx Viper but the only thing is its cost which is like Rs20000
http://nexx-helmets.com/pt/catalog/s...per-01x3000016

Can you gurus please suggest a similar brand with same or lesser quality with in built shades.
