Discount on Shark and Acerbis helmets

Big Bear Motorcycle Gear and Customs is running a 20% discount (!!!!) sale on Acerbis and Shark helmets. They also stock Bell and Origine helmets along with a bunch of other gear and accessories. Over the weekend I called them up to find out if they had either the Shark Race R Pro or the Bell Star and picked up their last Race R Pro while benefiting from the 20% discount. Total damage to the wallet was Rs 32,000. I must say, I am very happy with the customer service as well. Location wise, its right next door to Biking Spirit which is another great store for bikers.

Here are a few pictures of the store, definitely is worth a visit.

Just got a new lid for wifey!

ICON Airmada Doodle

Fits spot on, lightweight. She already had an AGV K3 SV but wanted something more funky and unique.

After a ridiculosly long wait I finally received my AGV K3 SV yesterday!
Ordered it on 6th April on Motardinn.com and there were a few delays because I kept adding things to my order and cancelling them.

Was a little disappointed to pay 50% duty and seeing the condition of the box it arrived in, but forgot all that once I put the lid on!

I ordered a size Small going by the sizing chart and it fits spot on. Feels very light and the build quality and ventilation is pretty good.
The only gripe I have is with the drop-down sun visor. Wish it was a tad bit lower 'coz as it sits, it does get a little annoying. Only got to try it for 30 minutes post-sunset though. Hope to do a Hyderabad-Bengaluru ride soon.
One question though, how do I find the date of manufacture?

Looking at the crumpled cardboard box, I was bracing for a damaged helmet. How much custom tax did you have to pay.

Mine too! But the helmet did not have a single scratch even. Touchwood.
I had to pay ₹6968+₹100 for the entire package that included the helmet and shoes!

Re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

The first screenshot showing the price as 6620 against the K3 .. is that the price of the helmet or the customs paid for it?

That's what I paid for the helmet! Plus 1700 for shipping.
Paid 7k customs for the helmet and shoes collectively.

Re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

I was planning to replace my disintegrating MT Axxis after two years. I had a CL-17, Bell Qualifier and Scorpion Exo - R410 in my sights.

Two weeks ago i accidentally stumbled upon HJC helmet prices in Amazon.in Global store. There were a few RPHA 10s and Fg-17s going for some serious discounts. Most of them were weird sizes like xxxl, xs etc.. After a thorough search i saw a XL RPHA ST going for less than 10k (customs duty deposit included) + 2k shipping. My head size is 60cm and found out RPHA series XL fits a 60-61cm head. I took a calculated risk and pulled the trigger on the solid black RPHA ST. The total cost was 11,900INR including shipping. The order was made on 6th may. I was very anxious for two weeks. What if customs charge a heavy duty on it even though Amazon says they'll take care of it? What if the fit is off?

After a 15 days wait the lid was delivered to me yesterday. Aramex couriers was responsible for the whole shipping process. And to my relief there was zero duty on it. The box was in surprisingly good condition

Helmet comes with a pinlock insert in the box. The fit is perfect though i haven't ridden long distances with it yet. The venting scheme is actually pretty good. You can feel the air flow in your head. There is a very mild booming noise from top of the vent but apart from that it is pretty quiet compared to my really loud MT(thanks to the disintegrating padding)

Internal sunvisor works great but the action can be refined. The black color is a bit of a concern in terms of visibility since the rest of my gear is also black. It is a great deal nonetheless considering RPHA ST retails around 30k in india

And why would you take such an effort at getting AGV which is easily available in the stores here in India/Bangalore? Was it a specific model that you were looking for that wasn't available anywhere here? Just curious.

Did it work out cheaper than what it is priced here in India?

Ofcourse it is cheaper.

AGV K3 SV retails for 20K or more in India (Ebay, Regular stores etc) and is available for sometimes as low as 14K when there is a big sale going on

In comparison, he got it for about ~ 10k-11K from abroad

Ok then it makes sense. Just appalling the way Customs treat the packages with utter disdain. Even if marked "Fragile", I won't be surprised if they would be thrown around

^^ I recommend the Vega Axor. It's the only DOT certified lid you can get within your budget

Why not save up some more and get a good quality helmet instead of going for a cheap option. Newbie or not, safety should never be compromised.

Have been touring with my wife from past 5 years, always made sure she had similar or better quality gear than me.

You can look at the MT range, they have decent helmets in the 5k mark.

Cheers!
