I've used it few times on my office commute. Gets hot real quick. Willt ake it out only for tours and trackdays now. Not recommended for every day use.

Unless its a ventilated mesh jacket, you will feel hot. I ride without the warm liner in my cramster raptor jacket and still get soaked in sweat during my rides.

But then mesh jackets don't provide any significant abrasion resistance.
I agree with you n_aditya that a mesh jacket without the liner is the best option in summers but i beg to differ on the abrasion resistance part. My DSG Maze has saved my skin on more than a couple of really nasty occasions even though my bike suffered a few face-lifts. The jacket still sees the light of the day and continues to serve me well. Though I agree that it doesn't LOOK at tough as lets say a DSG Nero.
Nothings beats a leather jacket in abrasion resistance though you are as good as fried in one in summers.

In comparison to leather, textile gear offer least resistance to abrasion.

I was reading an article which is researching this very topic. It takes into account the amount of time, speed and distance (TSD ) that causes riding gear to disintegrate and the research spreads across all types of gear including normal clothing. Leather offers the maximum protection.

Will try to locate that linky and post it here.

Edit - Posting link for the benefit of others.

I guess you misunderstood me buddy

I whole heartedly agree that leather offers the maximum protection. No doubt about it. I even endorsed this in my previous post.

That's sealed my buy on a leather jacket. Now I just need to let the dough ferment.

I think I can survive the warm weather - considering I rarely do any city riding, and I hardly do any summer runs long distance.

Sunnyboi, how did you figure out the fit? This is the *only* thing that worries me about buying online.

Re: The Riding Gear thread

didn't I say it would be fun . I could wear the armor inside but then it's another layer to be worn. This way I can just wear the leather jacket and go.

Re: The Riding Gear thread

Okay maybe I have it wrong here, but shouldn't you be depending on the leather for abrasion resistance and the armor for impact resistance?
Going by that, it would make more sense to wear the armor inside the leather jacket.

PS: No offense, but LMAO at the seat of the pants!

I agree, but I am going by ease of use here. Over multiple uses, leather may prove to be better abrasion resistant, but I have a feeling I will need to replace the armor after first use .

This is what happens when high performance fabric meets the need of crotch area. The main reason is water proofing.

You see similar patches in fighter pilot suits.

My single piece rain coat(http://www.motorcyclegear.com/street...rain_suit.html) has a similar patch.
I thought the patch was for getting a good grip on the seat. As the rest of the rain coat material is smooth.

Damn luck. I bought the rain coat in November. Came back to Hyderabad in December. No bloody rain to test it out. It rained just once during the night. I was so happy as the clouds opened up with all their might. 8 AM. Rain stops.

I feel like a farmer waiting for rain.

I am trying to avoid riding when it rains because here it gets cold very soon. current temperature is 46 F. Not to mention being the only biker on the road is hazardous by itself.

Well, it was a hunch. I had bad experiences buying gloves that fit the hand properly, then become tight when holding the handle.

So i bought the jacket one size bigger than actual. Turns out the jacket is slightly loose, that is a good thing and helps prevent the jacket sticking to my shirt in hot days.
