Hello BHPians,

I have recently converted my YEZDI ROADKING TO A FULL LED LIGHTING SYSTEM which i would like to share with you all.
As you all may know that LED's are the latest technology in lighting solutions for automotive and home lighting systems, as they are ECO FRIENDLY, RUGGED AND DURABLE THAN ANY
FILAMENT/FLUROCENT/HALOGEN/CFL BULBS. They are an excellent alternative to conventional lighting systems.

Did you do it yourself (D.I.Y job) or did you take professional help?
And where did you get the LEDs from? Any specs?

I'd be interested in getting LEDs in at least the headlight of my Roadking. I find the current setup inadequate for night-driving in unfamiliar roads. Do you think that the LEDs provide more throw & illumination than the stock light on the Roadking?

Can you please share the cost and the procedure(if you have done) or the pace where we can get it asnd even the place where we can get the equipment as there are so many(including me) who want to use this.

Was this a DIY? So ideally there would not be a dip funtion with this kind of set up?

When did you do this? What happens when one of the LED conks out?

Looks cool dude. Was it a readymade setup you got or was it customised by you. How is the night time drive experience after the change.

More concerned about the long distance visibility by using these LED lights.

Btw. how do you find the reach , throw and intensity of the headlight with the LED's ? What exactly made you decide on the LED's vs a Xenon for the headlight ?

looks nice! Dont you think on full beam all the LED's should be on rather than the top half semi-circle. Howz the beam like considering its sans a reflector?

Nice try... Even i tried something on the same lines on my Bike... But at a much smaller scale.. I just changes the Buld on the Speedo Console... Changes one buld to a Single LED.

where and how does one procure these?
Also if possible can you post the approximate cost of these.
Last time i went enquiring about LED strips they costing about Rs. 300/- per meter

What you have seen was COMPLETELY DONE BY MYSELF, in fact it is a DIY which i started about 4 months back you may wonder what took me so long to finish it the reason is I AM TOTALLY DUMB WHEN IT COMES TO ELECTRONICS OR ELECTRICALS so i had to learn enough to at least complete this project and it took me the above mentioned time and a WHOLE MONTH OF SURFING THE NET FOR details on circuits and components etc, of course couple of my friends who are knowledgeable in electronics helpe me where i could not understand certain things.
Now to answer your questions.

1. This conversion can be done to ANYTHING ON WHEELS !
2. The cost depends on the type and quality of components that you use, i have
used the lowest possible brightness configuration i.e NO HIGH POWER LED'S WERE
USED which means YOU CAN GO HIGHER IN BRIGHTNESS !
3. Readymade LED strips or fittings will not give you satisfactory results, as they are
not custom made to suit your different requirements i.e you Indicators need a
particular brightness, you Taillight/Brake lights require different brightness,
headlight needs both brightness and THROW. So custom made lights are more
dependable and worth the MONEY YOU SPEND ON YOUR DEAR POSSESSION.
4. This configuration totally cost me around 5,000/- Rupees.
5. The headlight can be configured any way as you want, i have done it as Low Beam
Bottom and High Beam on Top. You can mix both beams in a circular pattern i.e
the Low Beam can be in the center of the headlight and the High Beam on the
Outer Ring of the headlight in fact you can do it so that when you switch to High
High Beam the Low beam keeps lighted to give you combined brightness of Low
and High Beam simultainously.
6. LED'S DONT NEED REFLECTORS. (HIGH POWER LED'S REQUIRE LENS TO
STREAMLINE THE BEAM ANGLE i.e narrow or wide).
7. The components are assembled on a general purpose PCB, no holders are needed.
8. The Headlight Brightness is EXCELLENT FOR CITY DRIVING but if you want a
CRISPER BEAM WITH GOOD THROW I WOULD SUGGEST HIGH POWER LED'S of
the cost will be very high and they need thermal management to give you LONG
LIFE AND BRIGHTNESS.
9. PLEASE DONT COMPARE HID'S/HALOGENS etc, because the power that these
lights is almost 10 TIMES THAN WHAT A LED CONSUMES and this is what made
me choose led's over other bulbs.
10. AN AVERAGE LED'S LIFESPAN IS CLAIMED TO BE 100,000 HOURS OF CONTINIOUS
LIGHTING WHICH MEANS 11 YEARS OF CONTINIOUS LIGHTING FOR YOUR
VEHICLE !!!
11. All components were sourced LOCALLY.
12. All lights are OKAY EXCEPT THE HEADLIGHT WHICH I THINK ARE NOT APPROVED
BY THE RTO, (THEY ARE STILL IN THE FILAMENT ERA), but you can get away
with it and if you want to play safe you can use WARM WITE LED'S instead of
COOL WHITE WHICH I HAVE USED. Warm white led's colour is the same as your
regular filament bulbs.
13. LED's are usually connected in series/parallel method which means even if one
particular LED is faulty then only the series to which it is connected goes off and
not the WHOLE LIGHT, SO YOU WILL NEVER BE WITHOUT A LIGHT, perhaps you
have less light but never total failure.
14. I completed this project about a week ago.
15. LED's use very negligible power normally in milliamps (my headlight low beam uses
about 460 milliamps and high beam uses about 670 milliamps which is NEGLIGIBLE
COMPARED TO YOUR REGULAR FILAMENT BULB AND HENCE YOU GET A VERY
BRIGHT LIGHT EVEN IF YOUR BATTERY IS LOW OR IF YOUR DYNAMO IS NOT
GENERATING ENOUGH POWER FOR YOUR 12 VOLT LIGHTING SYSTEMS.

can you please post the circuit diagram of your setup?

Can you post some daytime pictures of Indicators, tail-brake lights?
I ask this because most Leds appear dim in sunlight IF lamp assemblies are fully exposed to sun (all indicators & some tail lamps as like Bullet). New bikes with Led tail lamps have some opaque surface on top & a slant lens thus limiting sun falling on source Led.

I think a slightly curved (convex) mount surface (or leds angled outwards) would further enhance light spread or rather provide a wider visibility angle since Leds feature a limit angle of light throw. what you say?

Great job, the modification looks awsome. And the headlight conversion; got no words to talk about it, should say "Simply Superb". LEDs on a vintage/Classic gives a contemperory look. I had purchased about 40 red LEDs with the intention for trying our a brake lamp conversion for my scooter. But they have been lying around for 5 months, since I bought. Your work motivates me to start it soon.
Well I have some doubts here. Have you used 2 different sereis for brake & tail lamp or 2 series activated through different resistors for varying the brightness. It would be of great info if you could share the resistor values and No of LEDs used in 1 series.
Do the indicators fladh with the same DC or AC flasher or else have you done your own circuit for controlling the flash timing?
