I have stopped taking this route and take the hosur, krishnagiri route nowadays because of these things! Because it is a twisty and curvy two laned road and how ever careful you are, there are morons who don't have an iota of patience and will give you no option other than colliding with them or make you get off the road to give them space to overtake! They even try to overtake you from the left especially when you are following a slow vehicle and waiting for a clear road ahead to overtake it.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

A parked and stationary White Audi Q7 caught fire in GK1, New Delhi at ~1PM today and the fire spread to the adjacent parked M800 leading to total loss of both the vehicles. Overhead electrical cables too caught fire as a result of the very high leaping flames!!

The Q7's owner was there and he tried to douse the flames but the fire got really hot really quickly. He just quickly opened the doors and boot and stood a safe distance away.

Fire service eventually extinguished the flames.

One adjacent parked Indigo and its owner were really lucky as the owner just got to it in time and saved it from the spreading flames!

Any ideas on what fire preventive measures should one have for their own car, just in case?

Some basic aspects to be borne whilst going on a single carriageway with 2way traffic.
Never overtake in a hurry.
Sedate driving helps and best to keep the speedo leashed at 80-85. Never be behind a larger vehicle for too long since your view is obstructed and you cannot take sudden decisions if required. Follow traffic pattern very closely. Overtaking if needed should be done very judiciously and need to check both orvm irvm and cross check oncoming and tailing traffic.

Just to add one more point : Even if there is no oncoming traffic visible, make sure the road is not curving towards left. In such cases, the oncoming traffic will be visible when it is too late to take any decisions. I had seen umpteen number of people trying these adventures and abandoning the exercise half way thru and sometimes, there will be vehicles behind them trapping them with no escape route.

Sad sight. This happened in Narsingi, Hyderabad. The animal is not to be blamed but the owner for leaving it out on the road.
I guess this must have happened at night and the cab driver did not see the buffalo for obvious reasons.

I will broaden this point to say that one should not ever try to overtake another vehicle unless one can clearly see that the entire stretch of road though which the manoeuvre to the point of getting back on the originating lane is performed, is free of any hazards. Curves to left, curves to right, upslopes, culverts, bus stops, side roads, pedestrians, parked vehicles... all these should be factored in the decision to overtake.

Strange accident in office campus today. Wonder what the cabbies were smoking in broad daylight. The indica is totally smashed with broken axle et al. The innova on the other hand took a slightly lesser hit. Wonder if it is the protective bar at the front or the innova is actually built like a skodaAccidents in India | Pics & Videos-imageuploadedbyteambhp1400080721.707068.jpgAttachment 1Accidents in India | Pics & Videos-imageuploadedbyteambhp1400080773.707770.jpg

I suspect twas done deliberately, to trap any unsuspecting motorist, easpecially on highways! This I read was a common practice by cattle owners somewhere on a KA highway, so that they could milk 'compensation' from the 'offending' vehicle owners for 'slaughtering' their beasts!

Film producer Boney Kapoor met with accident on Lond - Faltan road (Maharashtra).

He packed up the shooting for a film near by and was on his way to Hotel when he crashed into tractor. Both tractor driver and boney kapoor were injured.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

not sure exactly, but could be a overtaking from left gone bad or swerved left to avoid hitting something on the road. either ways, took out the electronic display board and a lamp post, so i'm guessing the impact was hard. intrusion into the cabin too, hope there were no fatalities.

Seems to be a nasty accident. I guess the driver to avoid colliding with another vehicle ahead of him must have crashed onto the side of the flyover or may be he lost control of the vehicle. Hope there are no casualties.
