I have.
One of my friends was driving his Dzire VDi to Bangalore from Sirsi, with his wife and child. On a two-lane highway, he collided with a cow. Because he could speak well in local lingo (not just Kannada), he paid only 3500 Rs for the dead cow. The driver of the pick up truck that towed his car told him that some villagers use their animals (even when they are sacred) to make money like this.

Chicken?! So now we know the answer to the question- 'why did the chicken cross the road?'

Jokes apart, what good would chickens do? Cattle 'slaughter' OTOH, would be more noticeable and lucrative for the owners!

A cow or a buffalo might well weigh more than the car that hits it. The damage to the car can be considerable, and with disinclination to wear seatbelts, fatalities could happen. Villagers are not going to get any money out of dead drivers.

On the other hand, would most people even bother to stop for a few dead chickens?

To avoid all such possibilites, just drive at a sensible speed, use lights properly, and look at the road ahead!

Its not on highways. I have heard people doing this in cities, in not so broad streets. Its difficult to notice them too and its easy for the people to stop you

Sadly there were, 6 dead. I find it strange that this went unreported in TOI.

Looks like it hit a park vehicle from the left. This pic doesn't show much damage to the bus except the Front left. If those 6 deaths were buses passengers , then it's surprising ? Or did it sideswipe some other vehicle ?

Accidents in India | Pics & Videos-imageuploadedbyteambhp1400237736.089546.jpg

Some smart guy thought it would be a great idea to drive fast through the gold lane on the Dnd. Didn't go as per plan. The tow truck behind me was in line to pick up the car. Bumper was gone and so was the left fender.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Witnessed an i10 catching fire on the Adyar to Madhya Kailash road in Chennai last night. I see this car parked on the side, all doors open with smoke pouring out from the insides and in no time flames start blazing out of the bonnet (near the windshield). Was quite scary to see the car just catch fire like that. Wonder what caused it.

The occupants were out and I don't think anyone was injured, since all the doors were opened.

This report has some more details on the accident.

Car seems to have been crushed beyond recognition.

Any guess on the car model?
